Heck, no one is even close to Garth’s numbers, but we’ve got 19 other names on the list, and some may surprise you.

20-top-selling-country-stars_george-strait

No. 2
George Strait
69 million U.S. units sold
It would hardly be a stretch to consider George Strait the greatest country music artist of all time. He certainly has the numbers: 44 Billboard No. 1 singles (60 across all charts), the most of any artist in any genre of music, and 22 CMA awards, more than any other country entertainer. And few can match The Cowboy, as he’s often referred to, for longevity. He’s been a star practically since his debut in 1981 with “Unwound.” George has been a model of consistency since that time, with 33 platinum albums to prove it.

20-top-selling-country-stars_garth-brooks

No. 1
Garth Brooks

Alison Krauss Announces New Album of Classic Songs, “Windy City,” Due Out Feb. 17; Releases Track Listing

Alison Krauss Announces New Album of Classic Songs, “Windy City,” Due Out Feb. 17; Releases Track Listing

It’s been a long wait to hear new music from country’s most angelic voice, but Alison Krauss has announced that she will release a new album called Windy City—her first project without her band, Union Station, since 2007’s Raising Sand with Robert Plant.

The new album is set to be released on Feb. 17 and features 10 classic songs that Alison hand selected with her producer Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney, George Jones), including the lead track, Brenda Lee’s “Losing You.”

“Usually it’s just all songs first,” Alison said in a statement. “It was the first time I’d ever not had songs picked out, and it was just about a person.” That person was veteran Nashville producer Buddy Cannon. “That was absolutely the moment,” she says of the moment she stepped in the studio with Buddy to sing “Make The World Go Away” for Jamey Johnson’s 2012 album, Living For A Song. “Wow! Buddy really makes me want to do a good job.”

As Alison and Buddy worked in the studio to create Windy City— the first new music since 2011’s Paper Airplane—they decided to record songs likeGentle On My Mind” by Glen Campbell; “You Don’t Know Me” by Eddy Arnold; Willie Nelson’s “I Never Cared For You” and Brenda Lee’s “All Alone Am I,that pull at the heartstrings.

“It’s almost like you didn’t know it was sad, because it doesn’t sound weak.” Alison says of the album. “It doesn’t have a pitiful part to it, where so many sad songs do. But these don’t. And I love that about it. I love that there’s strength underneath there. That whatever those stories are, they didn’t destroy. That that person made it right through it. I love that.

“It was really fun. I had a great time doing it. And to really have the mindset of seeing something through someone else’s eyes was a blast,” said Alison.

Alison has released 13 albums, including her most recent 2011’s Paper Airplane and has sold more than 12 million records to date. With 27 wins, she is the most awarded female artist in GRAMMY history.

You can pre-order Windy City today, along with the album’s lead track “Losing You.”

Listen to Rascal Flatts’ Rousing New Single, “Yours If You Want It,” From Upcoming Album

Rascal Flatts will release a new studio album in 2017—the trio’s first since 2014’s Rewind—and they are wasting little time in the new year giving fans a taste of what’s to come. Today (Jan. 6), the guys released the project’s first single, “Yours If You Want It,” a tune co-written by Jonathan Singleton and Andrew Dorff, who passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 19, 2016.

“We all felt like ‘Yours If You Want It’ was the perfect way to introduce our fans and radio to the new music we’ve been making,” said Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts. “We’ve been working really hard and we’re very proud of this track and what’s more, the late Andrew Dorff is a writer on it, and we are so honored to be a small part of making sure his legacy lives on. We have a special angel watching over it, for sure.”

Who’s New: Courtney Cole

Who’s New: Courtney Cole

Born: New Orleans
Lives: Nashville
Single: “Free.99”
Twitter: @TheCourtneyCole
Website: courtneycolemusic.com
Influences: Shania Twain, Mariah Carey, Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Faith Hill

INSIDE SCOOP

Courtney Cole may have grown up in New Orleans, where she was exposed to a plethora of different types of music, but she now calls Nashville home. The newcomer has been making a name for herself on the country music scene with the release of singles like “Ladylike” and “Drunk.” Her current single, “Free.99,” gives us a taste of what we can expect from her upcoming EP, due out later this year. Courtney has honed her chops on the road—where she’d like to be 365 days a year—with artists like Kip Moore and Miranda Lambert and she’ll be doing more of that in 2017, including a spot at Stagecoach Festival in April.

THE NOLA EFFECT

“Growing up in New Orleans was unique. Just growing up around so much music, it was very eclectic. My parents would always take me to the French Quarter and there was so much art and creativity and music and color. I feel like that just made me who I am. I feel like I’m a very colorful person, you know? It’s really because of everything that they exposed me to. I grew up singing in church and listening to—I don’t say that I’m a big zydeco music fan or I don’t listen to it regularly, but it was around—so I heard that. I heard a lot of jazz and my dad was a really big country fan. I just got a whole bunch of different everything. It was beautiful.”

PATH TO NASHVILLE

“I moved to Nashville when I was 18. I came here to go to Belmont [University]. I always wanted to come to Nashville. I never actually thought I would have the guts to do it. Belmont was such a great little transition for me to actually come and make friends and feel comfortable here. I didn’t know a single soul when I moved to Nashville, so it was really good for me. I was a mama’s girl. I couldn’t even sleep over at a friends house before I moved to Nashville, I had to be with my mom. They all had bets going out, saying ‘Courtney’s only going to be in Nashville for six months.’ Here I am, I’ve been here 11 years now, which is crazy. I worked my way up—I got an internship at Black River Publishing, so I saw how songs were made there. I really got into that and started writing a ton. Then, they hired me as a front desk girl, then I went to executive assistant, and then I went to promo coordinator. I was writing everyday after work and they saw that so they signed me to my first publishing deal.”

SHOW ME THE MONEY

“A lot of people think I’m saying three ninety-nine. [My single title], ‘Free.99,’ is just a term like if you don’t pay for something, it’s just a joke being like, ‘Oh, guess how much this cost. I didn’t spend any money for it, it’s free 99.’ I heard that term, and I thought it was hilarious. We got into a writing room—we were actually writing a different song that day. I was writing with Bobby Huff and Ben Burgess, who are two of my favorite people ever. They’re hilarious. We were just talking about being a musician and going out, having to support your friends and paying covers. It gets really expensive, just finding a fun way to go out on a budget. Finding a fun way to not spend money. That’s where that song came from. It’s hilarious and it’s so true.”

ON THE ROAD

“I love telling my story and showing the world me, from my perspective. I think that’s part of what being artist is. It’s sharing your perspective on how you see life. That’s what I try my best to do and I’m very sarcastic and funny. I just like to be quirky and still be real. That’s what I try and convey in all of my music. Writing is very important to me, but I love being on the road. If I could be on the road 365 days a year, I would. I love it. I don’t get tired of it. I mean I get exhausted, but that’s the point where the writing and the artistry meet and you’re sharing it. I feel like my purpose is to share and to give my story and my perspective. It’s just really rewarding to me.”

MENTORED BY MIRANDA

“She is such a strong woman and that’s what I—I love that. That’s always what I want to be so I was drawn to that. Seeing her in action being that was really cool. Not just on stage, commanding attention or all that, but seeing her run her company. Running the ship. I don’t think people realize, and I didn’t even realize, how important that is. Until you sit in this position, you’re like ‘Wow, they really are what’s controlling this whole ship.'”

SOUNDS OF AN EP

“It’s probably going to sound a little bit more mature, as far as a little bit more organic. I feel like it still has the same sass and still the same bit of sarcasm and playfulness. I feel like I’ve grown up a little bit more in this EP—that’s what’s fun to watch.  That’s what I’m excited to see, and see how it goes. It’s a story.”

“Nash Nights Live” Radio Host Shawn Parr Appears on “Nashville” Season Premiere

“Nash Nights Live” Radio Host Shawn Parr Appears on “Nashville” Season Premiere

You may know Shawn Parr’s voice from radio and TV—he hosts nationally syndicated radio show Nash Nights Live and he’s the voice of the ACMs, AMAs and The Golden Globes—but now he’s adding acting to his resumé.

Shawn is making his third appearance on the beloved hour-long drama, premiering tonight (Jan. 5) on CMT, this time as a co-star. Nashville originally aired on ABC for four seasons before being cancelled by the network. After petitions and an outcry from fans, CMT came to the rescue, picking up the show for a fifth season.

shawn-parry-dj-nashville“I play a radio DJ, so obviously there’s a lot of method acting involved,” Shawn tells Nash Country Daily with a laugh. “It’s my third time doing Nashville but this is my first time as a co-star. I was trying to not be overexcited because I was working with two of my favorite characters—I love Gunnar and I love Scarlett so much.”

Nashville follows the trials and tribulations of Rayna Jaymes, played by Connie Britton and Juliette Barnes, played by Hayden Panettiere.  Surrounding them and often complicating their lives are their family, friends and, in some cases, lovers, as well as the up-and-coming performers and songwriters trying to get ahead in the business.

“The coolest thing about it is Gunnar just sings all the time even when he’s not on set and Scarlett never breaks character,” adds Shawn. “Even when we are getting ready to shoot the scene or we’re in a break for 10 minutes, we had a conversation and she was Scarlett, she wasn’t her Aussie self. I have a lot of respect for both of them and they work so hard. It was just a lot of fun. It was a blast.”

Nashville stars Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O’Connor, Chris Carmack as Will Lexington, Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley, Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott, Maisy Stella as Daphne Conrad and Lennon Stella as Maddie Conrad.

Don’t miss the special two-hour season premiere of Nashville, tonight Jan. 5, at 9 p.m. ET on CMT.

New Blake Shelton-Inspired Venues to Open in Nashville (2018) and Tishomingo, OK (2017)

Blake Shelton and Ryman Hospitality Properties have teamed up to transform Blake’s 2001 breakout hit, “Ol’ Red,” into two new venues in Nashville and his hometown of Tishomingo, Okla.

With a planned opening in 2018, Ole Red Nashville at 300 Broadway will be a multi-level 26,000-square-foot entertainment venue, with a two-story bar and restaurant, retail area, performance space, dance floor and private VIP booths for small groups. The complex will also include a large, private event space and a 6,000-square-foot rooftop featuring an indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant with panoramic views of Lower Broadway.

Ole Red Tishomingo is set to open in late 2017.

“It’s amazing to me to see a song that’s been such a big part of my career come to life in the plans for Ole Red,” said Blake Shelton. “Nashville and Tishomingo are both places that are important to me, and it’s great that each location is going to have its own personality inspired by one of my favorite songs. It’s always been a dream of mine to create something like this where people know they’re going to have a good time as soon as they walk in the door, and I couldn’t be more excited that my friends at the Opry and Ryman Hospitality Properties are making it happen.”
