Following the 50th Annual CMA awards last night (Nov. 2) on ABC, Willie Nelson stopped by Jimmy Kimmel’s bar on Jimmy Kimmel Live to spend some quality time with the late night talk show host and enjoy a Crown Royal cocktail (see recipe below).

Jimmy was celebrating country’s biggest night with a star-studded list of guests including Willie, who Jimmy got to join him in a game of Three Ridiculous Questions, where Jimmy asks his guests—you guessed it—three ridiculous questions.

Jimmy Kimmel: If you were going to die fighting an animal, what animal would you want it to be?
Willie Nelson: A Rabbit – I think I can last longer

Jimmy: What do you think of the name Kenneth for a baby?
Willie: It would be nice for a horse.

Jimmy: Have you ever used an emoji?
Willie: Last night. I think I did. What does it do to you?

Last night’s golden anniversary celebration may have been the biggest CMA Awards Show of all-time, but one of country music’s biggest stars was noticeably absent: Blake Shelton.

Sure, he wasn’t nominated in any categories this year, but that didn’t stop artists like Jason Aldean, Jennifer Nettles and Martina McBride from attending and performing.

Our best guess—based on the tweet below—is that Blake is still in a tree stand, where he will remain until Nov. 7. Hopefully he brought a fresh supply of Gildan undies.

Before he copped the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award last night (Nov. 2), Garth Brooks performed a medley of noteworthy duets with wife Trisha Yearwood, including “Jackson,” ‘Chug-a-Lug,” “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man,” “(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden,” “Don’t Close Your Eyes” and “Golden Ring.”

On Monday (Oct. 31), Garth told NCD: “I’m performing with the Queen, so know that we’ll be paying tribute to the greatest duets ever, so you’ll probably hear a little Johnny [Cash] and June [Carter Cash], a little Loretta [Lynn] and Conway [Twitty], and, for sure, if you’re going to do duets, you gotta hear [Tammy] Wynette and [George] Jones.”

Garth lived up to his word, covering the entire aforementioned troupe with Trisha, as well as tunes from Crystal Gayle, Lynn Anderson, Roger Miller and Keith Whitley.

Keith Urban may have come away empty handed last night (Nov. 2) at the 50th Anniversary of the CMA Awards show—nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of Year, Album of the Year and Vocal Collaboration of they Year with Carrie Underwood— but he has nothing to be “Blue” about. The singers current single, “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” is quickly rising up the charts and could possibly garner Keith a fourth consecutive No. 1 from his RipCord album.

“It’s one of the those magical things that when we were in the studio cutting it we all felt that it was something very different to everything else on the record,” Keith tells Nash Country Daily. “I’m glad it finally got out as a single.”

Keith recently kicked off the arena leg of his 2016 ripCORD World  tour in Oct. —which will see him traveling across countries to places like Toronto, Lake Tahoe, New Jersey and New Hampshire and finally concluding in his home country of Australia this Dec.

“We are actually touring through December,” Keith adds. “Carrie Underwood and I are going to go down to Australia and tour all the way up until Christmas. Then I’m back here doing an New Year’s Eve show in Nashville—ringing in the new year right here. [Nashville] is home, I’ve been here 24 years and this is where we live all year round. It’s going to be nice to be in our own beds on New Year’s Eve.”

The Aussie native will be headlining Jack Daniels Music City Midnight: New Year’s Eve in Nashville with rock band Styx, Moon Taxi, A Thousand Horses, Charlie Worsham and the Fist Jubilee singers. Here’s to a great 2017.

Dolly Parton was presented with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award last night (Nov. 2) at the CMA Awards, but before Dolly accepted her honor for being an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition, a handful of country’s most talented female artists paid tribute to Dolly with a medley of her hits.

Jennifer Nettles and a cappella group Pentatonix kicked off the medley with “Jolene,” before Reba McEntire took over with “9 to 5.” Kacey Musgraves moved in with “Here You Come Again,” as Carrie Underwood and Martina McBride tackled “I Will Always Love You” with Kacey, Reba and Jennifer lending their vocal prowess.

“Gosh, dang it, Dolly, we love you to pieces,” said Reba before Dolly took the stage for an all-too-brief acceptance speech.

Miranda Lambert’s record-streak of six CMA Female Vocalist of the Year wins came to an end last night (Nov. 2) as Carrie Underwood reclaimed the top spot.

Carrie, who won the award three times from 2006–2008, has been nominated in the category every year since 2006, but she’s been on a bit of a winning drought, losing to Taylor Swift in 2009 and Miranda from 2010–2015.

In 2016, Carrie would not be deterred. Her Billboard No. 1 album, Storyteller, yielded No. 1 singles “Heartbeat” and “Church Bells,” as well as No. 2 “Smoke Break.” And if you’re seen her Storyteller Tour: Stories in the Round, you know why she got nominated for Entertainer of the Year too.

Miranda, on the other hand, had a relatively quiet year as she worked on her upcoming album, Weight of These Wings, which will drop on Nov. 18.

If the Brothers Osborne were boxers, they wouldn’t have even been given a puncher’s chance to defeat three-time defending champions Florida Georgia Line for CMA Vocal Duo of the Year. But not only did the Brothers floor FGL, they also knocked out Dan + Shay, Joey + Rory and Maddie & Tae to take home the trophy.

To put the upset in perspective, over the course of the last year (July 2015 to June 2016 for CMA voting), Florida Georgia Line has earned two Billboard No. 1 singles (“Confession” and “H.O.L.Y”) as well as a No. 3 single (“Anything Goes”), released a Billboard No. 1 album (Dig Your Roots) and crushed it out on the road with their monster Dig Your Roots Tour.

Brothers Osborne put out two singles (“Stay a Little Longer” and “21 Summer,” which charted at No. 2 and No. 24, respectively) from their Billboard No. 3 album (Pawn Shop). They also supported Miranda Lambert on her Keeper of the Flame Tour.

Now, I’m not saying that Billboard chart numbers and tours are the be-all and end-all of CMA voting, but it’s usually a good foundation, and FGL’s foundation was much sturdier than their competition. In that regard, it’s an upset—not that the Brothers Osborne aren’t more than deserving. They are.

In fact, during their acceptance speech, TJ Osborne said, “Man, I hate to be that person who says I didn’t prepare a speech, but I honestly didn’t. We sat behind Florida Gerogia Line and I thought for sure we’d be congratulating them tonight.”

It turns out that Brothers Osborne deserve the congratulations.

It was a star-studded opening to the CMA Awards Show last night as more than a dozen stars kicked off the telecast with a medley of some of country music’s biggest hits, including: Vince Gill with Ben Haggard on “Mama Tried”; Roy Clark and Brad Paisley on “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail”; Carrie Underwood on “Stand By Your Man”; Charley Pride on “Kiss an Angel Good Morning”; Alabama on “Mountain Music”; Charlie Daniels on “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”; Reba McEntire on “Fancy”; Dwight Yoakam on “Guitars, Cadillacs”; Clint Black on “Killin’ Time”; Ricky Skaggs on “Country Boy”; Alan Jackson on “Don’t Rock the Jukebox”; and everyone onstage chimed in on Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever, Amen.”

But it was Randy, who suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013, stealing the show with a single word: “Amen.” Randy brought tears to the eyes of many in the arena who were already standing in appreciation of the new Country Music Hall of Fame member.

On the strength of his massive World Tour, Garth Brooks took home the 2016 CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year, his first win in the category since 1998. Garth, who has won the award five times (1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2016), bested Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban in this year’s showdown.

Taylor Swift, who won the award in 2009 and 2011, presented the award to Garth after making the announcement in the evening’s final trophy presentation. An elated Garth sprang to the stage and proceeded to thank wife Trisha Yearwood, manager Bob Doyle, his band and crew, the CMAs and God.

On Monday (Oct. 31), Garth sat down with NCD and revealed how much wanted this year’s trophy. “You know what, I want it, I want it for the band and crew,” said Garth. “The 50th is something special. I’d be lying to you if I said otherwise.”
