The Devil went down to Georgia, and he found a Georgia boy to help Charlie Daniels celebrate his 80th birthday at the 41st annual Volunteer Jam on Nov. 30 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Georgia native and reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan has been added to the lineup that already includes Chris Stapleton, Travis Tritt, Kid Rock and Larry the Cable Guy.
Since 1974, Charlie has been bringing his musician and celebrity friends together on a “volunteer” basis to “jam,” while raising money for worthy causes. A portion of the proceeds from this year’s event will go to the The Journey Home Project, a nonprofit co-founded by charlie that helps veterans of the United States Armed Forces.
“This year, I will celebrate two milestones, my 80th birthday and the Volunteer Jam,” said Charlie. “It’s pretty amazing that we’re both alive and kicking and still going strong. Ain’t it good to be alive and be in Tennessee!”
Stay tuned. More musical acts will be announced soon.
Tickets are on sale now and range from $25 to $80.

When the NFL season kicks off on Sept. 11, Sunday Night Football will retire “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” the theme song based on Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You” that popular artists like Pink, Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood have covered over the past 10 years.
It’s out with the old and in with the new as Carrie recorded the program’s new theme, “Oh, Sunday Night,” which is based on her 2014 duet with Miranda Lambert, “Somethin’ Bad.” Carrie is in her fourth season performing SNF‘s theme song.
“I love being part of the Sunday Night Football family and can’t wait for the fans to hear the new theme song,” said Carrie in a press release.
Now, fans can hear “Oh, Sunday Night” right here, and don’t forget to tune in on Sept. 11 for the debut of “Oh, Sunday Night” with Carrie and 12 of her NFL-playing friends, including Eli Manning, Russell Wilson, Von Miller, Clay Matthews, Odell Beckham Jr., Antonio Brown and more.
New song. New season.

The second season of I Love Kellie Pickler premiered Thursday night (Aug. 25) on CMT and there were a few things we learned about our friend Kellie Pickler.
Kellie and husband Kyle Jacobs, who have been married for five years, started their reality show in 2015, with Season 1 giving us a glimpse into their fun-loving life and marriage.
Season 2 began with one of Kyle’s favorite activities: surprising Kellie. This time it was the experience of bungee jumping. To thank Kyle for all the surprises he’s given her, Kellie invited her mother-in-law over to teach her how to make Kyle’s favorite dessert. Meanwhile, Kyle decided to play matchmaker for Kellie’s friend, Jennifer Wayne of Runaway June.
Although I thought we already knew a lot about the blonde beauty and her husband, I found out a few more things last night. Here’s a list of five things we learned about Kellie and Kyle from the premiere episode of I Love Kellie Pickler. I’m certain we’ll learn a whole lot more in future episodes.
Right off the bat, Kellie and Kyle show how comfortable and real they are in front of the camera. Not even four seconds into the show, Kellie takes it upon herself to pluck a hair out of her husband’s ear. As the show kicks off, Kellie remarks, “I’ve got to get these hairs, they’re driving me nuts,” and she proceeds to stick her fingers into Kyle’s ear to tug out the stray hairs.
Ouch,” screams Kyle. “If I have a beard growing out of my ear, I hope you’d tell me,” she warns her husband. After a quick check, he tells her she’s clean. Now that’s love.
When Kellie and Kyle went out for a night on the town with friends Jennifer Wayne and Caroline Hobby, the task of finding Mr. Right for Jennifer became the topic of conversation. “I can help, I can do it,” exclaimed Kyle. “I feel like I can find you a good guy.”
“What makes you so confident?” asks Kellie. “Because I’m a guy,” said Kyle. “I know guys. I can walk up to a guy and be like ‘Yep, that’s a good guy’ or I can walk up to a guy and be like ‘Nope, that’s not gonna work out.’ I’ve got a great guy-dar. It’s like radar but it’s a guy-dar—a good guy-dar.” Challenged accepted! Check out the premiere episode to see if Kyle ends up finding a good man for Jennifer Wayne.
Apparently Bungee jumping was an item on Kyle and Kellie’s bucket list—one they can now cross off. Kyle surprised his wife by taking her out for an adrenaline pumping experience. “There’s a piece of dental floss— a string— between me and the pavement,” Kellie said. “Even though I am an adrenaline junkie, doesn’t mean I don’t get nervous right before I’m about to do what I’m about to do.”
That sure was a good way to get a fix for this adrenaline junkie.
Kyle’s parents moved to Nashville after living in Minnesota all of their lives. That puts them in very close vicinity to Kellie and her household. We all know that the relationship between a woman and her mother-in-law can be a volatile one. But it appears Kellie genuinely gets along with her mother-in-law, also known as Mama J. Kellie even went so far as inviting Mama J over the house to teach her how to make homemade apple pie—a favorite of Kyle’s.
“You hear people talk about their in-laws and how awful it is,” Kellie explains. “It’s really the opposite with us. We get along really well.” Well good on ya, KP.
Don’t forget to tune into I Love Kellie Pickler, Thursday nights, 10/9CT on CMT to learn much more about Kellie and her hubby Kyle.

Billy Ray Cyrus stopped by the Nash Country Daily offices last week to talk about his new album, Thin Line, which drops on Sept. 9.
During the hour-long conversation, Billy Ray also discussed his starring role as Burnin’ Vernon Brownmule on CMT’s Still the King, which was recently picked up for a second season.
As Billy Ray was telling a story about Randy Travis’ role as the sheriff in the pilot episode of Still the King, he revealed an interesting nugget of info about how the alcohol-related death of Keith Whitley in 1989 was a catalyst for his decision to give up drinking alcohol.
Check out a partial transcript of the interview below and check back in next week for more on Billy Ray’s new album.
Billy Ray: During the scene with Randy, I was naked, pretending to be drunk, laying in a creek upside down, and here comes Randy in the sheriff’s car. The rest is history from there. He chased me in the car. We’d laugh in between takes. I’ll never forget that big smile on his face and him saying, “It’s so good to be on this side of the law.”
NCD: You were just pretending to be drunk?
Billy Ray: I was pretending, yeah. I don’t drink. Crazy enough. I don’t drink. I quit in 1992 before the album Some Gave All came out. Trust me, to that point I had drank more than my fair share. It was actually part of my gig. Five nights a week I’d go to the bar and part of my show was to get drunk. That was for our sets. I mean, halfway through the night, people are sending me drinks that are being lit on fire. Oddly, now I play Burnin’ Vernon [laughing]. That was part of the nightly performance. Plus I enjoyed it. Getting that crazy for a decade? Then [I thought about] Keith Whitley’s death [in 1989 from alcohol poisoning]. Keith is from where I’m from up there in eastern Kentucky. In some ways, Keith Whitley, I feel like he saved my life. It was his influence and the fact that I loved Keith Whitley so much that when my chance came, my inner voice, my spirit inside, my intuition, that voice within said, “Cyrus, you’ve worked 10 years to get to this spot and you finally have earned your chance. Are you going to be too drunk to keep up with it? They say your record is going to explode around the world. That’s going to take a lot of work. There’s no way you’re going to be able . . . ” The voice just said, “You’ve got to quit drinking.” I quit. I haven’t had a drop since. But I’ve been thinking about starting back [laughing].

With the camera rolling, Dolly Parton sat down with Nash Country Daily to talk about all of the wonderful things going on in her life, including:

Twenty-five years ago this week, George Strait’s “You Know Me Better Than That” was culminating its three-week run (Aug. 17–31) as the No. 1 single on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
The tune, which was released in June 1991, was the second No. 1 single from George’s Chill of an Early Fall album. That’s reason to celebrate, even if the song’s subject matter is a little depressing.
Sure it’s an up-tempo ditty, but the poor narrator—we’ll call him George—pines for an ex who left him despite the fact that his new girlfriend idolizes him. But alas, George fears his new lady will soon realize his inadequacies, which include the tendency to get fat and lazy, as well as his greatest shame: he was raised on a farm.
It’s a classic case of Impostor syndrome, where chronic self-doubt overshadows success.
Although we’ll never know what happens to George, I like to imagine he dumped his new girlfriend, went back to the farm he was raised on and got really fat. Twenty-five years later, he was trolling Tinder, saw the ex that left him and swiped right. Now they are back together.
Enjoy a little “You Know Me Better Than That” on Flashback Friday.
