Missing Blount County Teen is Found Dead

A teen missing out of Blount County has been found dead in his car which had crashed into Chilhowee Lake.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office says this is not the outcome they’d hoped for.

18 year-old Garrett McAmis was last heard from Friday night after texting a friend that he was at a pull-off on The Dragon and was having trouble breathing.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Original Story: The Blount County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help in locating a missing teen.

Garrett McAmis, 18, was last seen on Friday night. BCSO took the missing persons report on Sunday after a family member reported McAmis had not returned home.

According to BCSO, a family member said a friend of McAmis received a text message from him around 11:30 p.m. on Friday saying he was located at a pull-off on The Dragon, an area of U.S. Highway 129 also known as Calderwood Highway. The friend also said that McAmis was having difficulty breathing, according to police.

McAmis was last seen driving a silver 2012 Kia Sorento with Tennessee plates BQF1385. He is described as a white male, 18-years-old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, about 122 pounds with green eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with a rose graphic and black pants. McAmis may also have a cast on his right hand. He lives on Calderwood Highway.

Deputies and family members are currently searching the area of the highway where McAmis was last seen. McAmis does have a medical condition that may make it challenging for him to get back home on his own.

Knoxville Police Arrest a Woman on Multiple Charges Including Carjacking, Assault, Criminal Trespassing and Vehicle Theft

Knoxville Police arrest a woman on numerous charges following a suspected carjacking, break-in, motor vehicle theft and assault.

Police arrested 26-year-old Tesia Taylor following incidents that happened in West Knoxville Friday night.

KPD first responding to The Abigail apartments after Taylor reportedly entered an apartment, demanded money and assaulted a resident, a 38-year-old man who was treated for a head injury.

Taylor then reported stole a car from the parking lot then crashed near the intersection of Kingston Pike and Leonard Rogers Street where she allegedly got into the passenger seat of another car and demanded that the driver get out, then crashed that vehicle in the intersection of Kingston Pike and Montvue Road where she was taken into custody.

Taylor is charged with aggravated assault, carjacking, criminal trespassing, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, motor vehicle theft and vandalism with additional charges possibly pending.

An investigation is underway after a man drowns after jumping off the Fort Dickerson Park Overlook.

It happened Friday night when the Knoxville Fire Department was called to the scene after witnesses say the man had jumped from the top portion of the park into the waters below.

KFD says a friend of the man who jumped into the quarry was attempting to dive in to rescue him when they arrived.

His body was found Saturday morning by members of the Rescue Squad using divers and an underwater robot.

They confirmed he had died by drowning.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating numerous vehicle burglaries.

The suspect vehicle involved in those burglaries was recovered abandoned in the Halls area off Emory Road near Maynardville Highway last night (Thursday), it was reported stolen last month.

Numerous firearms along with personal identifying information were stolen in the series of vehicle burglaries which began near the end of September.

Police reminding you to remove firearms and other valuables from your vehicle.

The Knoxville Fire Department is investigating a house fire that causes significant damage to an East Knoxville home.

Crews called to the 3500 block of Skyline Drive last night (Thursday) and found the fire in a bedroom. The home has suffered significant damage from smoke, water and fire.

No injuries have been reported.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.

A memorial service for Gibbs High School Graduate Army Specialist Jeremy Evans who died in Alaska when a transport vehicle flipped is scheduled.

Evans was one of the two soldiers killed. His unit has planned the service for Monday at 4 p.m. at Fort Wainwright.

He will be brought back to Knoxville but no date has been set yet for a service here.

Knoxville Police Identify Victim in MLK Jr. Avenue Shooting

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) The Knoxville Police Department Thursday identified the victim of a fatal shooting Monday, October 9 in East Knoxville.

KPD officials say the shooting happened on the corner of Ben Hur Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

They say officers were flagged down around 10:45 a.m. and found 47 year-old Trista Denton of Knoxville who had been shot. She was taken to UT Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

KPD says homicide detectives are pursuing active leads but that a suspect has yet to be identified or charged.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible to receive a cash reward.

KCHD will Observe Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

KCHD, Partners to Observe Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day 

Knoxville, Tenn. – The Knox County Health Department and several community partners are holding their seventh observation of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16 at Lakeshore Park’s Marble Hall. This day was created to provide awareness of those who have lost an infant or pregnancy.  

“As we strive to prevent infant loss, it is important that we create space for families who have experienced this tragedy to remember their babies and feel the support of the community around them,” said KCHD Program Manager Amber Ford. “No matter how short their lives, these babies are precious and well loved.” 

All those who have been touched by this loss are encouraged to drive through and view a special display of signs and luminaries remembering babies lost. There will also be an opportunity for families and loved ones to park their cars and gather at Marble Hall to be in community with other families. Every family will receive a gift, including a candle and luminary to place at their home in remembrance of their loved one.   

The event is made possible by support from Project Gabriel, the University of Tennessee Medical Center, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, the Precious Prints Project, and the East Tennessee Regional Health Office.  

KCHD also encourages families to participate in the Wave of Light that will take place across the world in memory of these losses. To do this, please safely place a candle or luminary in a place that is visible outside your home or in a window at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15.
