A months-long investigation ends in a murder charge for a state prison inmate in Northeast Tennessee.
Forty-eight year old Gregory Barner has been charged with first degree murder in the death of fellow inmate 70-year-old Robert Henry Hicks Jr. back in January; Barner was served the indictment on Thursday, May 25 at the Northeast Correctional Facility.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reports Hicks’ death was the result of a stabbing inside the Northeast Correctional Facility in Johnson County. During their investigation, special agents found that Barner was the one who stabbed Hicks.

In Knoxville, Inskip Pool and Karns Pool both open tomorrow (Saturday). Inskip Pool operating hours are 11 .m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sundays. Karns pool open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday – Saturday and 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Sundays.
The the outdoor Family Aquatic Center in Sevierville also opens tomorrow, operating hours for the season are 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
The Knox County Parks and Recreation Department’s three splash pads have already opened for the season which runs through Labor Day.
Updated story: An arrest made in the death of a teen found in a Clinton home.
A juvenile taken into custody this morning charged with Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection to 19 year-old Payton Bridges’s death, who police believe was shot in a home on Fowler Street yesterday.
The Clinton Police Department and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation still looking into the incident. They say three people, including Bridge’s were in house at the time of the shooting but no parents were home at the time.
Original Story: Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Clinton Police are investigating after a teen is found dead in a home during a suspected shooting.
It happened at a home on Fowler Street in Clinton yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
Officials say they found a 19-year-old man dead inside and say he was visiting a friend when he died. Police say two other people were inside the home and that the parents were not home during the reported shooting.
The boy’s manner of death has not been determined.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park extending the public comment period for the Laurel Falls Trail Management Plan Environmental Assessment through June 4th.
The additional time is being provided because the website was unexpectedly down May 19 to May 23.
The trail management plan addresses visitor experience and safety, parking, and trail infrastructure rehabilitation for one of the most visited trails in the park. The park is conducting public scoping for the proposed plan in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and National Historic Preservation Act.
An investigation is underway in Pigeon Forge after a teen dies following a shooting at a motel.
Pigeon Forge Police say it happened last (Wednesday) night at the Americana Inn. The victim is a 15-year-old male who died from his injuries at the hospital.
The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s death was announced Wednesday on Instagram. Turner died Tuesday, after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, near Zurich, according to her manager. She became a Swiss citizen a decade ago.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” the statement on social media said. “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
With admirers ranging from Beyoncé to Mick Jagger, Turner was one of the world’s most successful entertainers, known for a core of pop, rock and rhythm and blues favorites: “Proud Mary,” “Nutbush City Limits,” “River Deep, Mountain High,” and the hits she had in the ’80s, among them “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “We Don’t Need Another Hero” and a cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.”
Tina Turner’s iconic career
Throughout her career, Turner sold more than 150 million records. She earned 8 Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. She was inducted again and honored for her solo career in 2005.
Turner launched her career in 1960 with the release of “A Fool in Love.” The song hit No. 2 on the Hot R&B Sides chart and No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Besides singing, Turner also has dabbled in acting. She landed her first role in 1975 with “Tommy” and would later appear in “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” alongside Mel Gibson.
Tina Turner’s tumultuous relationship with ex-husband Ike Turner
Turner’s music career began alongside Ike Turner, her first husband. The musician was only 17 years old when she met him. She eventually left him in 1976. She first spoke about the abuse she suffered behind closed doors in an article published by People magazine in 1981. Turner described the abuse as “torture” and claimed she was “living a life of death.”
A few years later, she released a book.
Turner was also a mother to four children. She gave birth to her first child, Raymond Craig, in 1958 with Kings of Rhythm saxophonist Raymond Hill. The performer adopted Ike’s two children from a previous relationship, Ike Jr. and Michael.
The former couple welcomed their son together, Ronnie Turner, in 1960. Ronnie died in December at the age of 62.
Tina Turner finds happiness with Erwin Bach
Turner tied the knot with German music producer Erwin Bach in a lavish ceremony at their home on Lake Zurich in Switzerland on July 4, 2013, after dating for 27 years. Oprah Winfrey and Bryan Adams were on hand to witness the “Proud Mary” singer walk down the aisle wearing a green taffeta and black silk tulle Giorgio Armani dress, which was adorned with Swarovski crystals.
Turner told Winfrey it was “love at first sight” when she met Bach, who was assigned to pick her up from the airport before a concert some 35-plus years ago.
She explained in her documentary: “He had the prettiest face. You could not miss it. It was like saying, ‘Where did he come from?’ He was really that good-looking. My heart went ‘bu-bum.’ It means that a soul has met. My hands were shaking.”
“It’s that happiness that people talk about,” Turner told the press at the time, “when you wish for nothing, when you can finally take a deep breath and say, ‘Everything is good.’”
HOOVER, Ala. – Despite a solid effort from the pitching staff, a disappointing day at the plate was too much to overcome for No. 9/13 Tennessee, as Texas A&M eliminated the Volunteers from the SEC Tournament with a 3-0 victory on a rain-soaked afternoon at the Hoover Met.
Seth Halvorsen, Camden Sewell, AJ Russell and Zander Sechrist held the Aggies to just three runs on five hits and combined for 11 strikeouts to keep UT within striking distance, but the bats were never able to get it going as the Big Orange finished with just one hit on the day, which was tied for a season low.
Christian Scott registered the lone hit for the Orange and White, a single into right center with one out in the sixth inning, which extended his hitting streak to seven straight games.
Halvorsen made his first start since 2021 when he was playing for Missouri and gave the Vols four solid innings, striking out six batters while allowing a pair of runs on three hits and three walks.
Texas A&M starter Troy Wansing posted his best start of the year, tossing eight shutout innings with seven strikeouts and no walks on 95 pitches to get the win.
After a pair of scoreless innings to start the game, it was the Aggies (33-23) who struck first with a run in the top of the third. Hunter Haas walked before coming around to score on an RBI groundout by Trevor Werner to give A&M a 1-0 lead.
The Aggies doubled their advantage with an RBI single from Austin Bost in the fourth, plating Jordan Thompson, who singled to lead off the inning. Jace LaViolette capped the scoring with a solo home run to right center in the top of the sixth to make it 3-0.
After a consistent rain fell for most of the game, the decision was made to call the teams off the field with one out in the top of the ninth inning as the rain intensified and water began to accumulate on the infield. After a 2-hour, 6-minute delay, the team retook the field to finish the game.
Sechrist recorded the final two outs of the top of the ninth to keep the deficit at three, but Aggies’ reliever Evan Asherbeck retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
