Design Changes Proposed to New Multi-Use Stadium in Downtown Knoxville due to Rising Materials and Labor Costs

Design Changes Proposed to New Multi-Use Stadium in Downtown Knoxville due to Rising Materials and Labor Costs

Knoxville Sports Authority officials proposing some design changes for Knoxville’s upcoming multi-use stadium at a meeting Tuesday morning.

Rising materials and labor costs have inspired the stadium changes. Among those are removing a second story of offices and retail space, downsizing the stadium’s club area, and reorganizing some field-level constructs. These changes won’t affect the stadium’s overall look, however, officials said.

This latest design proposal is likely to be the last, officials said and should be finalized around October. Site work is scheduled to begin in August- that will involve things like moving dirt, bringing in heavy equipment and closing roads.

Officials are also still confident the stadium will be complete in late 2024 or early 2025, with the first game hoped for April 2025.

Knoxville Police and Negiotiators along with the Special Operations Squad involved in an hours long standoff with an armed man who barricaded himself in a West Knoxville home.

The man, identified as 40 year-old Dusty Mink reportedly armed with knifes, barricaded himself into a home on Dance Avenue after KPD officers responded to Reagan Avenue, where it was reported that Mink was involved in an altercation with a neighbor.

Mink reportedly ran from officers and climbed onto the roof of a shed while armed with the knives then barricaded himself inside a bedroom in the home.

After several unsuccessful attempts to establish communication with Mink, SOS personnel began deploying gas irritants into the bedroom. Mink exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident after almost six hours.

Mink has 13 outstanding warrants on a variety of previous charges. He will be charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest from the initial incident that prompted police response.

While Dan + Shay have been on the road touring for a decade now, Shay admits that they have learned a thing or two from their time with Kenny. “I think the biggest thing that I’ve kind of been watching and we’ve probably learned from him is just how to really treat your crew. He just takes really good care of them”

Shay adds, “I think just watching him we’ve definitely learned a lot from that but even on stage he’s such a great performer. Just watching him…how he interacts with the crowd and really reaches to the very back, top you know person at the very end of the stadium and it’s just an incredible thing to watch and we’ve definitely learned a lot from him.”
