Luke Combs’ New Album Growin’ Up is Available Now

Luke Combs‘ album Growin’ Up is out now.

While this is Luke’s third album, the process of making it was different for Combs and his production team, “The recording process of this album was really complicated and convoluted, honestly, obviously new producers. You know, me, Jonathan Singleton, Chip Matthews, we’ve had to figure out how to work with each other. They had to figure out how to work with each other. And so it was really fun. Because we got to have a lot of creative, different conversations that we had never had before. And try different things. And we did gosh, I couldn’t tell you how many studio sessions four or five or six. Just recording a bunch of different stuff and trying different things and recording different songs and recutting songs. And it was just fun.”

Luke gives special kudos to his co-producers, “I mean, Chip, and Jonathan worked their ass off on this album, so shouts out to them. Maybe it wasn’t as fun for them as it was for me.”

The recording of Growin’ Up was also complicated by world conditions that developed in the early days of the making the album, “It was crazy because we had started a little bit of this recording kind of before COVID Some of these songs were recorded before. Some were recorded during some were recorded after you know, and had this big tour sitting right in the middle. So it was crazy. It was a crazy experience to get to this point. But I’m glad we’re here. I’m glad people are finally getting to hear it. And looking forward to people getting to hear some more.”

The first song that people got to hear from Growin’ Up was Luke’s number-one single “Doin’ This.”

Growin’ Up track list;
1. “Doin’ This”
2. “Any Given Friday Night”
3. “The Kind of Love We Make”
4. “On the Other Line”
5. “Outrunnin’ Your Memory” feat. Miranda Lambert
6. “Used To Wish I Was”
7. “Better Back When”
8. “Tomorrow Me”
9. “Ain’t Far From It”
10. “Call Me”
11. “Middle of Somewhere”
12. “Going, Going, Gone”

One of the tracks that fans have been interested in hearing is “Outrunnin’ Your Memory” which features Miranda Lambert.

Luke shares, “Wrote the song with Miranda Lambert, it’s kind of an interesting story. We had talked about writing before in passing. And I’ve always been a huge fan of her writing. Obviously, man, I think she’s one of the best artists, writers of, you know, not only our generation, but of all time. And so we got together and wrote at her manager’s office and, you know, had thrown around some ideas and, and, you know, couldn’t really land on something we loved. And I had come up with an idea with my buddy, Dan Isbell, the day before this write with Miranda. And so I pitched that idea to her. And she was like, oh, I really liked that idea. And I was like, man, I wouldn’t feel comfortable writing this without my buddy, Dan, because we kind of came up with this idea together. So I ended up calling Dan. He dropped whatever he was doing to come to come write with us that afternoon. And in like the hour that it took for him to get there, we ended up starting a completely different idea, which is ‘Outrunnin’ Your Memory.’ And so we had had the chorus done, Dan got there, helped us knock out the rest of it. So it’s me, Dan, Miranda, love this song. I really do. It’s one of my favorites…has such a kind of a different feel than some other stuff. I feel like we’re kind of progressing the sound and I really love this song and shout out to Miranda for singing on it with me. I think it adds a whole new whole new flair to this song that wasn’t there before. So I hope y’all love it. It’s one of my favorites.”

When it comes to the project’s title, Growin’ Up, Luke says, “I’ve spoken about this album, kind of being transitional, because I’m at this transitional stage of my life where, I still feel like a young kid. I’m growin’ up a little bit however.

Part of that growin’ up for him was that this week Luke became a dad!

So, along with his new single “The Kind Of Love We Make” hitting country radio, the album coming out, getting ready for a tour, and now a baby…there’s a lot going on for Combs…

Another track that everyone has been waiting to hear is “Middle Of Somewhere” – which shares the same title as Luke’s tour launching later this year…

Luke shares the story behind the song, “’Middle Of Somewhere’…wrote this song in Montana with Randy Montana and Jonathan Singleton. And I just really love the place that…you know, me and my wife live now. And it’s just a place that I’ve talked to so many people here that are so proud to be from here. And it’s a place that so many people have probably never heard of, and even my friends, in Nashville, we live almost an hour away from town. And people are like ‘God, you live in the middle of nowhere.’ And as I was talking to people here, and this idea popped in my head is like, people call this the middle of nowhere, but to the people that live here, it’s the middle of somewhere. And it’s such an important place to them. It’s such a huge part of their life. They were born here, and a lot of these people will be here for the rest of their lives. And it’s a place that means so much to them. So I feel like that middle of nowhere thing is just, it’s not that to everybody and I wanted to write that song for everyone that lives in a place like this, and especially for the people that live in the little town that I live in now.”

Luke’s The Middle Of Somewhere tour with Jordan Davis and Morgan Wade, and Lainey Wilson starts in September with back-to-back dates in Maine.

Luke Combs’ new album Growin’ Up is available now – and it includes his current single at country radio, “The Kind Of Love We Make.”

Four Vols Named to D1Baseball.com All-America Teams

Four Vols Named to D1Baseball.com All-America Teams

D1Baseball.com All-America Teams

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – More All-America accolades were awarded to a handful of Vols on Friday as D1Baseball.com released its postseason All-America teams, which included four Tennessee players.

Sophomore pitcher Chase Dollander secured his fifth first-team All-America honor this season, becoming the first UT player to do so since Luke Hochevar in 2005. Dollander is now a member of an exclusive group of Volunteers to garner first-team acclaim from five or more outlets, joining the likes of program legends Todd Helton (1995), Jeff Pickler (1998), Chris Burke (2001) and Hochevar (2005).

Dollander has compiled an impressive list of postseason accolades this year, as he was also named the SEC Pitcher of the Year, just the second player in program history to win that award (Hochevar, 2005). The Evans, Georgia, native posted a perfect 10-0 record and led the country with a 0.80 WHIP. He also was second in the SEC with 108 strikeouts and led the conference with a 2.39 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .175 batting average.

Fellow pitcher Chase Burns made his fourth All-America team, joining former AL Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey (1994) as the only player in program history to be selected to four All-America teams as a freshman.

Burns has also earned Freshman All-America honors from three different publications and was named the Freshman National Pitcher of the Year by the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball.

Burns had a phenomenal debut season for the Big Orange, finishing with an 8-2 record and 2.91 ERA to go along with 103 strikeouts while serving as the Vols’ Friday night starter for the majority of the season. The Gallatin, Tennessee, native’s eight wins are tied for the fifth most by a UT freshman and his 103 punchouts rank third in program history.

Position players Trey Lipscomb and Drew Gilbert were also named third-team All-Americans by D1Baseball.com after ranking first and fourth in the SEC in runs batted in this season.

Lipscomb’s 84 RBIs rank third in single-season program history while Gilbert’s 70 rank eighth. The duo also combined to hit 33 of Tennessee’s record-setting 158 home runs. This marks the fifth All-America team that both players have been selected to this year after neither had ever been named to one prior to this season.

Tennessee has had eight players earn non-freshman All-America honors this season, doubling the previous program record of four set in 2021 and 1994. If you include freshmen All-Americans, the Vols have had nine players earn All-America recognition, which also smashed the previous school record of five in 2021.

Board of Trustees Approves Revised Neyland Stadium Renovations Plan

Board of Trustees Approves Revised Neyland Stadium Renovations Plan

The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees on Friday approved Tennessee Athletics’ request to adjust the scope and budget of the ongoing Neyland Stadium renovations project, originally approved in 2017.

Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Danny White and his leadership team conducted a detailed review of the stadium project and identified new strategic priorities aimed at delivering an unparalleled experience for the UT community through impactful and resourceful modifications. The revised project scope requires a total budget increase of $108 million, resulting in an overall Phase I budget of $288 million, which will be fully funded.

The estimated total project budget at the time of the 2017 approval was $340 million.

The newly approved vision for historic Neyland Stadium aligns with Tennessee Athletics’ stated goals of modernizing the fan and visitor experience through enhanced amenities and diversified seating options, improving fan safety and security and aligning stadium features and aesthetics with campus architectural standards.

“I appreciate the Board of Trustees for understanding and supporting our revised plan and budget, which will ultimately allow for a significantly enhanced gameday experience for every fan throughout Neyland Stadium,” White said. “We’ve done a great deal of listening and learning over the past 18 months, and our fans have been instrumental in helping to shape the vision for the future of one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world.

“Through our evaluation process, we also developed a new business philosophy prioritizing project elements that generate revenue. That will enable us to invest in key amenities that impact our entire fanbase, such as enhanced Wi-Fi, larger concourses, nicer restrooms and more.”

A critical remaining element in the plan is major and necessary upgrades to the south side and perimeter of the stadium, including the widening of concourses, construction of expanded gates and entryways and provision of additional restrooms and concessions areas. The delivery of this primary component will dramatically improve fan comfort and safety, reduce wait times and allow for more food and beverage offerings.

The project will continue ongoing renovations, which include new amenities delivered for the impending Fall 2022 football season, and will provide annual deliverables through an anticipated project completion date of Fall 2026.

The various project scope adjustments from the 2017 plan ($180 million) to the revised plan ($288 million) are as follows:

New/Updated Scope:
• Stadium Wi-Fi – build stadium-wide Wi-Fi network for improved fan wireless connectivity
• V-O-L-S letters – add two sets of letters to reintroduce a traditional stadium feature
• Founders Suites – add spacious and elegant private suites and lounge
• Restrooms under Gate 10 ramp – provide restrooms for highly trafficked entrance and hospitality area
• Upper north plaza area activation – add food and beverage services and new tiered seating
• Lower west premium club – add a 12,000 sq/ft indoor club space under the new chairback seating deck
• Skybox renovations – update skyboxes, including common spaces, and add operable windows
• Southwest and southeast entries – expand plaza entries and extend exterior concourse zones
• Brick cladding for vomitories and Gate 11 ramp – create cohesive architectural style

Retained Phase I Scope:
• South concourse 1 expansion (including new and additional bathrooms and concessions)
• Kitchen, commissary and loading dock
• South concourse 2 chairback seats
• LED ribbon board replacement
• New state-of-the-art sound system
• North videoboard and plaza area
• West lower bowl chairback seating

Removed/Held Phase I Scope for Future Evaluation/Phases:
• South concourse 3 expansion
• New vertical center ramp (remove ramps at Gates 10 and 11)
• Southwest and southeast prominent gate structures
• Outdoor patio and social gathering areas in southwest locations
• Checkerboard Lounge and media relocation

Chandler Selected in 2nd Round in NBA Draft, Lands with Hometown Grizzlies

Chandler Selected in 2nd Round in NBA Draft, Lands with Hometown Grizzlies

Eight of last 15 Vols selected in the NBA Draft are Tennessee natives

Tennessee point guard Kennedy Chandler was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 38th pick in the NBA Draft Thursday, and his rights were immediately acquired his hometown Memphis Grizzlies.

Six Vols have now heard their names called in the last four NBA Drafts.

Chandler also is the fourth one-and-done draft selection in Tennessee program history, following Tobias Harris (2011), Keon Johnson and Jaden Springer.

As a true freshman this past season, Chandler led the Vols in scoring (13.9 ppg), assists (4.7 apg) and steals (2.2 spg). A starter in all 34 games in which he appeared, Chandler had a hand in 33.6 percent of Tennessee’s total team scoring on the year—scoring 473 points himself and dishing out 161 assists, which led to 392 points.

Chandler was a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week, earned second-team All-SEC honors from the league’s head coaches and also was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. He averaged 14.7 points and 5.0 assists in Tennessee’s three wins en route to the SEC Tournament Championship and was voted tournament MVP.

Chandler’s 74 steals led all Division I freshmen last season and were the most ever by a UT freshman. His 161 assists were third-most among Division I true freshmen.

Chandler leaves Rocky Top sharing the school-record for steals in a game, as he logged seven against Presbyterian on Nov. 30, 2021.

A Memphis native, Chandler is the first Vol ever drafted by the Grizzlies. Former Vol Yves Pons just completed his rookie season with the Grizzlies as an undrafted free agent, and VFL Jarnell Stokes played for the franchise during the 2014-15 season.
In 1971, Tennessee forward Don Johnson was drafted by the ABA’s Memphis Pros.

The number of NBA Draft picks produced by Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes now rises to 30 dating to 1990. Among active head coaches, Barnes has developed the fifth-most NBA Draft picks. Over the last 13 years, Barnes has seen 13 of his players selected.

Barnes has now coached eight one-and-done players as a head coach. Of Barnes’ seven one-and-done players already in the NBA, four have won at least one NBA championship.

Taylor Swift Releases “Carolina” from the Where The Crawdads Sing Movie Soundtrack

Taylor Swift Releases “Carolina” from the Where The Crawdads Sing Movie Soundtrack

Where The Crawdads Sing arrives in theaters on July 15th – but Taylor Swift‘s song from the movie is available now!

Talking about “Carolina,” Taylor shares, “About a year and half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness… and the world’s betrayal of it. I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then Aaron Dessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it.”

“Carolina” is available now – check out the lyric video which features scenes from the upcoming movie Where The Crawdads Sing.
