Luke Combs Announces The Middle Of Somewhere Tour with Jordan Davis

Luke Combs is hitting the road for The Middle Of Somewhere tour this September through December.

Luke took to socials to make the announcement and share with fans info about the ticket prices…

In case you missed it in the video, Luke not only announced the dates but he also shared, “I know that the price of everything has been going up these last couple years and there’s nothing I can do about that, but the one thing I could do is set the price of my tickets. So, what I wanted to do was keep the ticket prices the same as they were before the pandemic. I really, really hope you guys will come out and check us out. Can’t wait to see you on the road!”

When it comes to who is headed out on the road with him, Luke Combs’ fans thought something was happening earlier this week when Luke posted a cover video of Jordan Davis‘ “Buy Dirt.”

When Jordan returned the next day with his own cover of Luke Combs’ “Doin’ This” – people knew something was definitely happening…

Now it’s confirmed that Luke’s tour will feature Jordan Davis for the entire run with Morgan Wade, Lainey Wilson, and Mitchell Tenpenny opening on various dates.

NOTABLE

Success vs. Ranked Foes
Tennessee has played some of its best baseball when facing top 25 teams, posting an 8-2 record against ranked opponents this season, including a pair of sweeps over top 10 foes Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. Since Tony Vitello took over as head coach in 2018, the Vols have posted 41 wins over ranked foes, including 20 victories over teams ranked in the top 10 and six wins over top-ranked teams – Ole Miss (x3) in 2022, Arkansas in 2021, Texas Tech in 2020 and Florida in 2018.

Vitello’s record against ranked teams at UT is 41-40 and UT has won 12 series over ranked teams during his tenure.

Best of the Best
With a series sweep over Florida last weekend, Tennessee became the first team in SEC history to start league play 17-1. The only other team to start 16-1 was the 1951 Vols, who finished as the runner-up at the College World Series.

Blade is Back
Preseason All-American pitcher Blade Tidwell made his first SEC start of the year last Saturday at Florida and looked like the dominant force everyone expected to see this season before he was shut down for the first half of the year due to injury. Tidwell gave up just two hits in 4.2 shutout innings while striking out five batters.

Vols Cleaning Crew Back in Business
Tennessee recorded its eighth series sweep this season last weekend at Florida, setting a new single-season program record. The only other UT team to even sweep seven opponents was the 1994 SEC Championship team.

Last weekend’s sweep of the Gators was the Vols’ first in Gainesville since 2001 and marked the first time UF was swept at home in SEC play since 2006.

Not including tournaments, the Vols have recorded 20 series sweeps since 2018 when Tony Vitello took over as head coach.

Series Sweeps by Year Under Vitello
2022: 8 | 2021: 5 | 2020: 2 | 2019: 3 | 2018: 2

Ferrara’s Five Fits For Football Vols On NFL Teams Ahead of Draft

Ferrara’s Five Fits For Football Vols On NFL Teams Ahead of Draft

By Vince Ferrara / @VinceSports

There are four University of Tennessee players expected to be selected in the 2022 NFL Draft in Las Vegas.

After talking to scouts, compiling feedback from player visits, interest from teams in the UT players, evaluating team needs and digging into scheme fits for the VFLs, I’ve come up with the five best team fits for each player. That list with analysis and round range for each is below here in my blog, “Vince’s View,” on 991TheSportsAnimal.com.

LEXINGTON, KY – November 06, 2021 – Defensive lineman Matthew Butler #94 of the Tennessee Volunteers during the game between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Tennessee Volunteers at Kroger Field in Lexington, KY. Photo By Andrew Ferguson/Tennessee Athletics

There are more than five fits for each player of course, especially when considering these players have all talked to dozens of teams at some point through the draft process of all-star games, NFL Combine, Pro Day and private visits.

Some teams will show-up multiple times in my fits because plenty of teams need DLs, OLs, DBs and the hot position group in football today, WRs.

This was a fun exercise I spent some time on. Hope you enjoy it and will follow along with my list as you enjoy the NFL Draft Thursday through Saturday.

DL – Matthew Butler

Most Likely Round Range: 3 to 5
5 Fits: Kansas City, Tennessee, New Orleans, Dallas, Las Vegas

Summary: Butler projects as a DT in a 4-3 or DE in a 3-4. I think the tape of him playing his best football last season in a 4-3 will steer him more to those teams, but his versatility has drawn interest from (at one point) all but one NFL team, so that may not be a big factor. He played the second-most snaps in the country last season among interior defensive linemen. He’s stayed healthy, fights-off double-teams, attacks up-field with an excellent first step, loves the game and is a leader of men. I’ve said on 99.1 The Sports Animal often that I think he’ll be the first Vol selected. It’s close though, with all four guys in the same general round range. The Chiefs like him a lot, need to upgrade their d-line depth and KC is tied with Jacksonville with the most draft picks. Kansas City has 12 selections (two in 3rd/two in 4th/four in 7th) which also means draft capital to move around to secure who they want. Butler has Mike Vrabel kind of player written all over him. He’s also met with them and visited them, so there’s certainly interest there. The Saints want to upgrade their depth inside and he could compete with VFL vet Shy Tuttle for playing time. I can see Butler landing with a historic franchise and having great appreciation for that, so that was a separator with Dallas and Vegas to go with their DT needs.

DB – Alontae Taylor

Most Likely Round Range: 3 to 5
5 Fits: Tennessee, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Houston

Summary: Taylor projects at outside cornerback, slot cornerback and safety, depending on who you talk to. I’ve heard all of them from different very smart football people. Bottom line is, that versatility, ability to play and star on special teams and his 4.36 forty yard dash at the NFL Combine have been big pluses on his side. I think the Titans really like Taylor. They have young draft picks from the last two drafts as their three starters, but they need quality depth with today’s passing league. He fits the Titans competitive culture as well. Taylor also has visited all the listed teams. The Steelers like tough, chip on their shoulder, versatile players and he certainly is that. He’d join VFL Cameron Sutton in the secondary. There are lots of other team candidates for Taylor.

WR – Velus Jones Jr.

Most Likely Round Range: 4 to 6
5 Fits: Green Bay, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Carolina, Tennessee

Summary: Jones projects as a Slot WR and return specialist with the likelihood that he’ll be on other special teams units as well. His speed (4.31 at the NFL Combine) was eye-opening, but there’s still some that wonder if he’s a natural catcher of the football. He’s tough, has great character and brings coveted yards after the catch. The wide receiver position’s importance is hot right now, so there’s a long list of good team fits. He’s met with all those teams listed and many more. He could join Knoxville’s Amari Rodgers and Randall Cobb as slot WRs catching balls from Aaron Rodgers with the Packers. He would join the WR room in San Fran with VFL Jauan Jennings. 5 of the 7 Titans’ picks are in his round range. The Titans need slot depth, so I could see Jon Robinson turning in the card with his name.

OL – Cade Mays

Most Likely Round Range: 4 to 6
5 Fits: Pittsburgh, Dallas, Tennessee, Baltimore, Green Bay

Summary: Mays projects as a guard, with the ability to play all five positions. He visited with the Steelers, Cowboys and the Titans. The Steelers have bodies they’ve added in free agency, but they could use Mays’ nasty disposition and versatility. The Packers have zero reserve guards signed at the moment, so they will likely spend multiple picks at that position with their 11 picks. Mays fits the Ravens’ heavy two-tight and two-back heavy run sets, especially when they use gap scheme blocking. The Titans’ power run game matches Mays also with a depth need there also.

NASHVILLE, TN – December 30, 2021 – Wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. #1 of the Tennessee Volunteers during the TransPerfect Music City Bowl game between the Purdue Boilermakers and the Tennessee Volunteers at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, TN. Photo By Andrew Ferguson/Tennessee Athletics

A few other Vols on the draft range as outside possibilities or undrafted free agent candidates are: DB Theo Jackson, DL Ja’Quain Blakely and WR JaVonta Payton.

Jordan Davis Now Covers Luke Combs – Something Is Definitely Going On

A couple days ago Luke Combs covered “Buy Dirt” by Jordan Davis

Now Jordan is covering Luke’s current single “Doin’ This” with Luke commenting “Come on with it! Sing it Buddy!!”

Luke’s new album, Growin’ Up, is set to come out in just a couple of months – is there a connection?

Luke’s stadium shows are right around the corner – does that mean anything?

Perhaps we will know the answer very soon.

Until then, we will keep on “Doin’ This.”

Chris Janson Had More Songs for All In, but Felt These Were the Best 16 for This Album

Chris Janson Had More Songs for All In, but Felt These Were the Best 16 for This Album

Chris Janson’s album All In arrives this Friday.

All In includes 16 tracks – 15 of which were written or co-written by Chris himself.

Chris says that he actually had a lot more songs, but narrowed it down to these, “I just went a little overboard on the song writing process this time, and I wrote way more than 16 songs. 16 is just what I picked…I picked 16 of my favorites and that just happened to be the number.”

All In arrives this Friday, April 29th, and it includes Chris Janson’s new single “Keys To The Country.”
