Neyland at Night: Tennessee, Ball State Opener Set For Thursday SEC Network Primetime

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Coming off a debut season that featured eight school records, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and his Volunteers will kick off the 2022 campaign against Ball State in a special Thursday, Sept. 1, SEC Network primetime contest in Neyland Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET.

The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3. Tennessee and Ball State will be meeting for the first time in football.

The Thursday primetime tilt debuts the newly-renovated Neyland Stadium, which will feature two new state-of-the-art videoboards on the north and south ends, a lower-west premium club, enhanced chairback seating in multiple lower-west sections and a party deck social gathering space on the upper north end.

This September also marks the 50th anniversary of the first night game in Neyland Stadium. A then-record crowd of 71,647 watched quarterback Condredge Holloway and the seventh-ranked Volunteers top sixth-ranked Penn State, 28-21, on Sept. 16, 1972.

Fifty years later, Heupel and the Volunteers go under the lights in Neyland Stadium with an exciting brand of football led by sixth-year senior quarterback and 2021 Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist Hendon Hooker. Hooker’s debut season in Knoxville saw the Vols orchestrate the nation’s “fastest” offense, averaging 2.99 plays per minute while owning the FBS’ seventh-best scoring offense at 39.3 points per game.

Tennessee returns eight starters on offense, including four offensive linemen. Defensively, the squad returns seven starters from an attacking unit that averaged 7.8 tackles for loss per game, good for second in the SEC and seventh in the FBS. Senior edge rusher Byron Young and senior linebacker Jeremy Banks lead the way after posting 11.5 tackles for loss apiece a year ago.

This week when the line-up for the 2022 CMA Music Fest was released fans got excited to see all the country artists that were going to performing.

Russell Dickerson got excited because he finally achieved a goal that was more than a decade in the making.

Russell says “NISSAN STADIUM!!! My first CMA fest was 11 years ago and every year I said ‘next year we’ll see y’all across the river’ and this year it finally came true!!! LETS GOOOO! SEE YALL ACROSS THE RIVER CMA FEST!!!”

The news of his stadium show during CMA Music Fest comes on the heels of Russell achieving another recent Music City dream – playing the Ryman Auditorium.

The Tennessee native shares, “Growing up in Nashville playing the Ryman Auditorium has always been a dream of mine. That dream became a reality a few weeks back when we brought the ‘All Yours, All Night Tour’ to a sold out crowd.”

Lady A is Heading Out On Tour – and Taking Requests From Fans!

Lady A is hitting the road this August for a 21-show run on their newly announced Request Line tour!

Lady A’s tour will take them across the nation playing for fans in some legendary concert venues – like Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, New York City’s Beacon Theater, Atlanta’s The Fox Theater and the Chicago Theater, just to name a few.

Lady A’s Dave Haywood says “We’ve been touring for over fifteen years and have played some of the biggest venues in the world but there’s something truly special about being close to your audience and having the flexibility to include the fans in how the show goes.”

Dave adds “During our Vegas residency our favorite moments allowed the three of us to talk with the fans and play what they wanted to hear. So we’re taking that spirit and making it a regular part of our shows this year.”

And staying true to the name of the tour – the trio has opened a request line for fans to call! You can dial up 615-882-1975 and ask that your favorite Lady A song be added to the show’s set list.

Luke Combs headed to social media this week to make a big announcement.

As Luke’s current single “Doin’ This” is knocking on the door to number-one on the country airplay chart, he’s shared that his 3rd album is set to be released on June 24th!

“Doin’ This” is the first track from the new project, but for the last couple of weeks the reigning CMA Entertainer Of The Year has been dropping samples and songs that just might be on the so far unknown named album.

Combs shared this mix of a track called “Kind Of Live We Made”

Another unreleased song Luke shared was “Tomorrow Me”

And of course there’s Luke’s cover of Ed Sheeran‘s “Dive” – which he’s recorded but has yet to officially make an album of Luke’s…

Lots of country stars have additional enterprises in their careers other than music. Some open honky tonks, while others partner with alcohol distributers.

But Craig Campbell is really getting down to what people want – coffee!

Craig and his wife Mindy are happy to announce their new venture, Grindstone Cowboy. A coffee shop located in their home town of Eagleville, Tennessee (about 45 minutes outside of Nashville).

Craig says, “Mindy and I share the love of coffee and music, and this has been a dream of ours for a long time.”

Campbell adds “We love this community, and want this to be a welcoming place for our friends, neighbors and visitors to have a great cup of coffee, good fellowship, wonderful music and maybe a drink or two.”

Mindy Campbell shares, “Every step of this project has involved our entire family, because we are all invested in this dream.”

Craig and Mindy’s daughters Preslee and Kinni Rose turned this truly into a family business.

Mindy says, “This has been a huge labor of love, and we’re excited for April 30 to get here!”

Grindstone Cowboy’s grand opening will be on April 30th, and if you’re in Nashville or passing through and you want to check out what the Campbell’s are serving up, the coffee shop is located at 115 North Main Street in Eagleville, Tennessee.
