KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 4 Tennessee jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning and never looked back, cruising to a 10-1 win over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The bats of Trey Lipscomb and Logan Steenstra did the majority of the damage for the Vols, as the duo combined for four hits and five RBI on the night. Lipscomb opened the scoring with a two-run double while Steenstra also recorded an RBI double in the first inning to put UT ahead 4-0.

Steenstra drove in two more runs with single in the fifth to extend Tennessee’s lead to six and give him a career-high three RBI for the game. Jake Rucker also had another strong night, joining Steenstra and Lipscomb as Vols with multiple hits after going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

The Vols (25-5) used nine different pitchers, each one pitching one inning. Freshman Jake Fitzgibbons made his second-career start and looked good despite walking one batter in the first inning.

Redshirt junior Jason Rackers and sophomore Will Mabrey both pitched scoreless innings in their first appearances since early-season outings against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Feb. 23. Rackers was credited with the win, the first of his UT career.

The Big Orange scored multiple runs in the first, fifth and eighth innings and finished with 11 hits on the night. UT has now scored eight or more runs in 10 of its last 15 games.

Kendal Ewell drove in the only run of the night for the Colonels (9-18) with an RBI single in the fourth inning. EKU starter Garret Simpson fell to 0-3 on the year after allowing four runs on five hits in three innings of work.

Next up for Tennessee is a showdown with No. 9 Florida at home this weekend. First pitch for Friday night’s series opener is slated for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+ and the ESPN app.

NOTABLE

25-5 THROUGH 30: With Tuesday’s victory, Tennessee improved to 25-5 this season, which matches its best start through 30 games since also going 25-5 in 2004.

STEENSTRA ON FIRE: In UT’s last three games, Logan Steenstra is batting .417 (5-for-12) with three doubles, three runs and four RBI. The Liberty, Missouri native had two more hits and set a career high with three runs batted on Tuesday night.

With lyrics like…

“How to know when it’s love
How to stay when it’s tough
How to chase forever down a driveway
How to never let it get there in the first place
And yea I know a boy
Who gave up and got it wrong
If you really love a woman you don’t let her go
Yeah I know few things a man oughta know
Yeah I know few things a man oughta know”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a dominating week in the circle, junior Ashley Rogers has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Rogers was stellar for the Orange & White, tallying 31 total strikeouts and three victories, while allowing just three earned runs in wins over No. 8 Kentucky and Liberty this past week. On Tuesday, Rogers was terrific against No. 11 RPI Liberty — who took down SEC leaders, Arkansas — tossing a complete game shutout, while giving up just two hits and striking out eight batters.

In wins on Friday and Sunday over Kentucky, Rogers threw 14.0 innings, while giving up just three runs on six hits and sending 23 batters back to the dugout with nothing to show for their efforts. Her marque performance came in Sunday’s series decider against Kentucky, where Rogers struck out 13 batters and helped will the Lady Vols to their first SEC series win of the season.

Through 16 starts, Rogers leads the SEC in strikeouts, opponent batting average and batters struck out looking, while ranking second in ERA, innings pitched and wins.

It is the second time this season Rogers has been tabbed as the pitcher of the week and is the third SEC weekly accolade of her career.

Carrie Underwood Achieves What No Other Country Music Artist Has Ever Done

Carrie Underwood Achieves What No Other Country Music Artist Has Ever Done

Carrie Underwood followed her heart when it came to making her album, My Savior — she drew inspiration from music that she grew up with and that touched her a deep and spiritual way.

Fans have responded to Carrie’s passion project in a big way — by making My Savior the number-1 album on both the Country and Christian album charts this week.

By hitting number-1 on the country album chart, Carrie Underwood is the first artist in country music history to have 9 consecutive albums debut in the top spot since the start of their career.

Talking about the songs on My Savior, Carrie says, “These particular songs for My Savior, you know, I grew up singing these in church and my church that we go to right now they play a lot of very contemporary Christian songs, praise and worship songs, and it’s great. But every once in a while, they’ll kind of throw in like a chorus or something of some hymn that I grew up with and there’s an immediate sense of home when I hear that. And that’s kind of where I was at when we were recording this. It should be like a warm hug, and I feel like there’s so many people that are like me that kind of long for that. You think back to that sense of home and your church that you grew up in with the pews. I mean it’s just one of those things that it just feels like home.”

This weekend Carrie appeared on CBS Sunday Morning to talk about her album, and her amazing career…

Florida Georgia Line Capture 18th Number-1 with “Long Live”

Florida Georgia Line Capture 18th Number-1 with “Long Live”

Congrats to Florida Georgia Line, as their song “Long Live” is in the top spot on the country music airplay chart.

This is the 18th career number-1 hit for Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard.

The guys shared, “Having our fans and Country radio support us all of these years has been nothing short of a blessing, we couldn’t imagine a better song to mark our 18th! Here’s to all of the good times and to many more ‘Long Live’ nights!”

Tyler says that while they actually wrote the song a few year ago, “Long Live” is a perfect song for now, “‘Long Live’ was just a really, really special song that we wrote, I don’t know, now probably a couple years ago. It feels like such a big song and such a necessary song and a timely song, even more timely now than ever.”

Brian shares the story of how the song was created, “I think we were just kind of kickin’ around ideas and somebody threw out ‘Long Live’ or ‘Long Live Nights Like These’ and we were off to the races. I think we just started talking about things that mean a lot to us – the simple things, workin’ hard, playin’ hard, families, good friends, good times, Walmart parking lot parties. Hey, love ’em. Always have. You know, this song has taken on a new meaning for us, I think, even in the midst of these uncertain times. Crank it up and let’s celebrate this amazing life we do get to live. Let’s celebrate all the wins that we get baby.”
