“CMA Country Christmas” Lineup to Feature Darius Rucker, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A & More

“CMA Country Christmas” Lineup to Feature Darius Rucker, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A & More

Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins will host the 11th Annual CMA Country Christmas holiday special, airing on ABC, Monday November 30. Thomas and his wife Lauren will be joined by Dan + Shay, Gabby Barrett, Lady A, Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, and Darius Rucker with Lindsey Stirling.

This CMA Country Christmas will have a little different feel this year, as it’s the first time the annual special was filmed without a live audience.

The special’s Executive Producer Robert Deaton says “The idea for this year’s show was to do a throwback of the great Christmas specials of the 1960s and 1970s. Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra all had classic Christmas specials where the viewer was invited into the homes of the host to celebrate the holiday like a best friend coming to visit. That was what we wanted to create for this year’s show. Instead of a big flashy production, we took a page from those iconic specials to say, ‘Come relax, and let’s celebrate the holidays together.’”

Chris Stapleton’s New Album Is a Big Slice of His Life

Chris Stapleton’s New Album Is a Big Slice of His Life

Chris Stapleton’s brand new album, Starting Over, is available now! The project features 14 new songs, including the title track. Chris admits that the album captures a lot of his life, as he worked on it for over 2 years. “I mean obviously, there are three covers on the record that are older songs. There are a few songs that I pulled from my big sack of songs (laughs), but a lot of the songs on this record kind of happened in the space of making the record” Chris says “Now granted, that process happened between 2018 and early 2020, so there’s a two, two-plus year period there that a lot can happen. So, in that sense, it’s probably more of a slice of life than some of the previous records that you get this kind of in-the-moment feeling even if the moment that we’re in now is very different than the moment that this was recorded.”

Maren Morris Pays It Forward at the CMAs

Maren Morris Pays It Forward at the CMAs

During her acceptance speech for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 54th annual CMA Awards on Nov. 11, Maren Morris name-checked some of her favorite female voices of country music that her fans might not know. As she stepped up to the microphone for the third time of the night, after previously capturing CMA Single and Song of the Year for “The Bones,” Maren took the opportunity to mention the names of Linda Martell, Yola, Mickey Guyton, Rissi Palmer, Brittney Spencer and Rhiannon Giddens.

Maren did this to honor the way that she was helped in the early days of her career. “So many artists like Miranda [Lambert] for instance have paid it forward for me as an artist and given me an opportunity, and Keith Urban and everyone that’s brought me out on tour over the years,” says Maren “I feel like you obviously want to thank your team and the writers, and luckily I got the chance three times tonight to kind of say everything I wanted to say. I felt like tonight I really am thankful and grateful for those women that have pioneered the way for me to get to do this. And I’m such a fan of country music and soul music and so discovering artists like Linda Martell and giving credit to people like Yola and Mickey Guyton, you know people that really should be more heard of, and so I just felt like as Female Vocalist of this year, of 2020, I wanted to share that moment with these women that don’t often get the credit that they deserve.”
