KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee women’s basketball assistant coach Lacey Goldwire is part of a new social justice initiative called Coaches 4 Change, which unites coaches across the men’s and women’s collegiate basketball landscape in pursuit of positive progress.

“Coaches 4 Change is a fantastic initiative to get the right people in a room, within our coaching communities, to talk about what we can do within our team, program and university and, at some point, our community, state and country,” Goldwire said. “I am excited to talk to my peers about their thoughts on systemic racism and injustice, to become more educated on what I can do and to encourage the people around me to vote! I want to be a part of the group of coaches that sparks transformation through thoughts, words and action.”

Goldwire, who also serves as the Lady Vols’ recruiting coordinator, is entering her second season on staff at Tennessee in 2020-21. She has helped guide her teams to nine postseason appearances in her 12 years in the collegiate coaching profession, with previous experience at Oklahoma State, Morehead State, Iowa and Arkansas.

Coaches 4 Change (C4C) is an organization founded by college basketball coaches who are dedicated to helping their student-athletes, their campus and their communities. The mission of C4C is to provide a platform that engages, educates, empowers and evolves the collegiate student-athlete on issues of social injustice, systemic racism and the power of voting in the endless pursuit of equality. The 4 Pillars of C4C are to:

• ENGAGE our fellow coaches & student-athletes within our campus & local communities.  To raise awareness and involvement in the endless pursuit for equality through voter registration.
• EDUCATE our fellow coaches & student athletes with historical information pertaining to systemic racism, social injustice, police brutality and significant events that have shaped our country.
• EMPOWER our fellow coaches & student-athletes to inspire change through the power of voting.
• EVOLVE the minds of our fellow coaches & student-athletes to help foster positive changes within their collegiate and local communities surrounding the issues of racism & social injustice.

Those C4C pillars serve as the four foundational elements that guide its endless pursuit of equality. For more information about C4C, visit www.coaches4change.org or follow @Coaches4Change on social media.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Chancellor Donde Plowman has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Presidential Forum, becoming the first woman president or chancellor in the history of the Southeastern Conference to represent the conference in that position, it was announced Thursday by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.

The NCAA Division I Presidential Forum is composed of one president or chancellor from each of the 32 Division I conferences. The purpose of the forum is to assist the NCAA Division I Board of Directors in accomplishing its strategic mission in the Division I governance structure and to help ensure that the NCAA core value involving presidential leadership of intercollegiate athletics at the campus, conference, and national level is achieved.

“We are pleased that Chancellor Plowman has agreed to this important role in representing the Southeastern Conference, and in doing so becomes a leader for our conference as the SEC’s first female president or chancellor on the forum,” Sankey said. “Strong presidential leadership is critical in national and conference matters related to intercollegiate athletics, and Chancellor Plowman’s service on the Presidential Forum comes at a time when there are substantive issues being addressed that will impact the future of college sports.”

Plowman said she is honored to represent the SEC on the NCAA Presidential Forum.

“We are leading through a critical time for our universities and college athletics—decisions of the NCAA have a real and lasting impact,” Plowman said. “At the center of all these decisions are student-athletes who need our support.”

Plowman’s three-year appointment to the NCAA Division I Presidential Forum begins Sept. 1.

“I can’t overstate how much I appreciate Chancellor Plowman’s enthusiastic leadership,” Tennessee Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer said. “She’ll serve as an outstanding representative of both Tennessee and the Southeastern Conference in this important and well-earned role.”

With Upcoming Christmas Album, Carrie Underwood Says She Wants to Give Her Gift of Music “Back to Jesus”

Carrie Underwood will release her first-ever Christmas album, My Gift, on Sept. 25.

The holiday offering will feature a combination of beloved traditional favorites and original material that celebrate Carrie’s faith and the spiritual nature of Christmas.

“It’s really hard naming a Christmas album,” says Carrie during a video trailer for the upcoming album. “I tried to think about the songs that are in it, so I started thinking about individual songs and one of my favorites is ‘Little Drummer Boy’ . . . I love music. I love singing. That is my personal gift that I have that I get to do, that I’m so blessed to do, and I want to use that gift and I want to give it back to Jesus. That’s kind of why I landed on My Gift as an album title.”

My Gift was produced by Greg Wells and mixed by Serban Ghenea. The album features a world-class orchestra led by conductor David Campbell.

Over the years, Carrie has released a number of holiday tracks, including “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “O Holy Night,” “The First Noel” and more, however, the upcoming record will be her first full-length Christmas album. My Gift will follow the release of Carrie’s sixth studio album, Cry Pretty, which dropped in September 2018.

My Gift will also be released on vinyl on Oct. 30. The track list, songwriters and special guests will be announced in the coming weeks.

Taylor Swift Announces Surprise Album, “Folklore”

Taylor Swift Announces Surprise Album, “Folklore”

Taylor Swift surprised her legion of fans by announcing she will release her eighth studio album, Folklore, at midnight ET on July 24.

Taylor shared the news via social media on July 23, saying, in part: “Surprise. Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my 8th studio album, folklore; an entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”

The new album will feature 16 tracks on the standard edition, with a bonus track on the deluxe version.

Taylor shared addition details about the new project via social media, saying: “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise. Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine; Aaron Dessner (who has co-written or produced 11 of the 16 songs), Bon Iver (who co-wrote and was kind enough to sing on one with me), William Bowery (who co-wrote two with me) and Jack Antonoff (who is basically musical family at this point). Engineered by Laura Sisk and Jon Low, mixed by Serban Ghenea & Jon Low. The album photos were shot by the amazing Beth Garrabrant. Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed. My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much.”

Taylor will release a video for new song “Cardigan” on July 23.

Folklore will follow the 2019 release of Taylor’s seventh album, Lover.

Cimaglia Named to Lou Groza Award Watch List

Cimaglia Named to Lou Groza Award Watch List

Brent Cimaglia – UT PK / Credit: UT Athletics

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Tennessee senior Brent Cimaglia was one of 30 players, including five from the Southeastern Conference, named to the watch list for the 2020 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, as announced by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission on Wednesday.

The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.

Cimaglia was a semifinalist for the Groza Award in 2019 after posting one of the top seasons ever by a Tennessee kicker. The Nashville native made 23 of his 27 field goal attempts last season, including two kicks of 50-plus yards en route to earning second-team All-SEC honors. His 85.2 percentage ranked second in the SEC and was best among kickers who attempted more than 20 field goals.

Cimaglia was 9-of-11 on kicks of 40 or more yards and connected on all 35 of his extra point attempts to account for 104 total points (sixth-most in UT history). His 23 field goals ranked second in the SEC and tied for seventh nationally. The 23 makes also moved him into third on UT’s single-season list for field goals made. Cimaglia had four games in 2019 where he connected on three or more field goals, going 3-for-3 against Georgia State (Aug. 31), UAB (Nov. 2) and Indiana (Jan. 2) while positing a career-best 4-for-4 performance against BYU (Sept. 7).

For his career, Cimaglia has made 41-of-53 career field goal attempts for a 77.4 percentage, which ranks second in school history. His 41 field goals made ranks eighth in Tennessee history and his 192 career points are closing in on the top 10 in school history. Cimaglia is a perfect 60-for-69 on extra-point attempts and has drilled three of his four field goal attempts of 50-plus yards, including a career-long make of 53 yards against UAB on Nov. 2, 2019.

The Groza Award will announce its 20 semifinalists on Thursday, Nov. 5. From that list, a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists and current NFL kickers will select the top three finalists for the award, which will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 24. That same group then selects the national winner, who will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 10 during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.

The 29th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl, recognizes the three finalists during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with a gala awards banquet at West Palm Beach’s Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on Dec. 7.

The centerpiece of the Festival is the flowered representation of Dolly’s mother sewing her famed coat of many colors.

The Flower & Food Festival was initially slated to take place at Dollywood in the spring, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the event.

A number of measures have been installed at Dollywood as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, including:

  • Daily capacity will be limited.
  • Face masks or face coverings are required for all visitors ages 3 and up, with some exceptions.
  • Temperature screenings will be taken prior to entry.
  • Attraction and dining capacities will be limited to allow guests to have more space to move around during their visit.
  • Physical distancing measures have been put in place, including physically distanced queues, marked barriers and social distancing reminders.
  • Additional sanitation measures have been implemented, including high touch point areas being cleaned more frequently and providing additional hand sanitizing locations.

Upcoming events at Dollywood include the Harvest Festival (Sept 25–Oct. 31), which will feature the Great Pumpkin LumiNights, and Smoky Mountain Christmas (Nov. 14–Jan. 2, 2021).
