Knoxville, TN (WOKI/WVLT) – A Knoxville man wanted in connection to an alleged assault is now in custody.
The Knoxville Police Department says officers arrested 31-year-old Matthew Childress Saturday afternoon in the 400 block of Broadway.
According to arrest warrants, officers spoke with a woman late Friday night who reported Childress struck her several times with a handgun during an argument. Police say the victim suffered a swollen eye and a cut to the head.
When officers located Childress the next day, they say he was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, police reported finding a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen, along with more than 13 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Childress is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and theft of a firearm.
He is scheduled to appear in court Monday for a bond hearing.
