FENTRESS COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – Former Fentress County Sheriff Michael Reagon has agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge in a misconduct case investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Court records show Reagon pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor count of tampering with governmental records, a charge reduced from an earlier felony count. He admitted to tampering with or destroying government records.
As part of the plea agreement, Reagon waived his right to a trial and formal indictment. He was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of supervised probation and must complete 80 hours of community service.
The agreement also requires Reagon to permanently surrender his P.O.S.T. certification, meaning he can no longer serve as a law enforcement officer.
The case stems from a TBI investigation that led to a November 2025 indictment of Reagon and former detective Jerry Mifflin. Investigators say Mifflin, at Reagon’s direction, completed mandatory law enforcement training courses on Reagon’s behalf in December 2024. The falsified records kept Reagon in compliance with state certification requirements and qualified him for a salary supplement.
Reagon resigned from office in December 2025 following the indictment.
Mifflin, who faces similar charges, is scheduled to return to court June 26 for a plea deadline hearing.
