Knoxville, TN (WOKI /WVLT) – Heavy rainfall across Knoxville Monday evening led to multiple water rescues and reports of street flooding.
According to the Knoxville Fire Department, crews were first called around 5:45 p.m. to the area of Fifth Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive, where a driver became stranded in rising water. Firefighters were able to safely rescue the individual, who was not injured and declined medical treatment.
About 30 minutes later, crews responded to another call near Third Creek Road and Hinton Drive, where a pickup truck was stuck in floodwaters. That driver was also safely rescued, and no injuries were reported.
In addition to the rescues, flooding was reported on Middlebrook Pike under Interstate 640, as heavy rain continued to impact travel across parts of the city.
Officials are reminding drivers to avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to drive through standing water.
