Anderson County, TN (WOKI /WVLT) – Three people lost their lives in a head-on collision that shut down Briceville Highway for several hours Thursday afternoon in Anderson County.
According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on July 9 along State Route 116, also known as Briceville Highway.
Investigators say a vehicle driven by Rocky Bailey was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an SUV driven by Tonya Craig.
Following the impact, Bailey’s vehicle became fully engulfed in flames and came to rest upside down on the west side of the roadway.
Troopers reported that Bailey, a passenger in his vehicle identified as Jack Ramsey, and Craig were all deceased when emergency responders arrived at the crash scene.
The severity of the collision forced authorities to close Briceville Highway for an extended period while emergency crews worked the scene and investigators documented evidence.
According to THP, the roadway remained closed for approximately nine hours before traffic was able to resume.
No additional information about the victims or the circumstances leading up to the crash has been released.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the collision.
