NORRIS LAKE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Four people were safely rescued after a boat caught fire Sunday afternoon on Norris Lake near Hickory Star Marina.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said officers were dispatched to the scene around 3:40 p.m. after receiving reports of a vessel fire on the lake.
According to TWRA, officers responded by both boat and land. Before emergency crews arrived, nearby boaters quickly stepped in and helped remove all four occupants from the burning vessel, bringing them safely to shore.
By the time officers reached the scene, the fire had already been extinguished.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated all four individuals who had been on board. Officials said each person suffered only minor injuries related to the fire and did not report any life-threatening conditions.
Authorities credited the fast actions of nearby lake-goers with helping ensure everyone escaped safely.
TWRA has not released details about the type of vessel involved or what may have sparked the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
