Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – The Knoxville Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, June 26, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety.
Officers will staff the checkpoint along Central Avenue Pike, where motorists will be screened for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. The department says these checkpoints are designed to deter dangerous behavior, prevent serious or fatal crashes, and raise awareness about the consequences of driving under the influence.
According to KPD, impaired driving may have contributed to at least seven fatal crashes in Knoxville in 2025.
The upcoming checkpoint will utilize a DUI checkpoint trailer acquired in 2022 through a Tennessee Highway Safety Office Traffic Services grant at no cost to local taxpayers.
KPD last conducted a sobriety checkpoint on June 5 in the 8200 block of Kingston Pike, resulting in two DUI arrests.
Police are urging drivers to practice safe habits at all times, including slowing down, wearing seat belts, minimizing distractions, and never driving while impaired.
