Knox County, TN (WOKI) – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit, known as TANGO, is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon on Mascot Road.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency responders were called to the crash scene at approximately 12:06 p.m. on July 8, 2026.
Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Mascot Road when it crossed the double yellow centerline into the lane of oncoming traffic. Investigators say the vehicle then left the roadway, striking a concrete pillar before colliding with a tree.
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Authorities said the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim is being withheld while officials work to notify next of kin.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, and investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
