KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT)— Dolly Parton fans in East Tennessee will have a chance to celebrate the entertainment icon’s film career this weekend as Regal Cinemas brings two of her most beloved movies back to the big screen for a special charitable tribute.
Regal announced that “Steel Magnolias” and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” will be screened at 12 Tennessee theaters this weekend, including Knoxville-area Regal locations. The Tennessee-only screenings come ahead of a broader nationwide rollout planned for next weekend.
The theater chain says tickets are priced at $9.25, a reference to Parton’s hit song and film“9 to 5.” Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library through the Regal Foundation. Other reports indicate funds will also support East Tennessee Children’s Hospital through Regal’s charitable efforts.
“Steel Magnolias,” released in 1989, features Parton alongside Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis and Daryl Hannah. “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” released in 1982, starred Parton opposite Burt Reynolds and earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
Tickets and showtimes are available through Regal’s website. http://www.regmovies.com
