Chris Young Scores Third Consecutive Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 Single With “Sober Saturday Night”

Chris Young Scores Third Consecutive Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 Single With “Sober Saturday Night”

Break out the champagne. Chris Young’s “Sober Saturday Night” reached the top of both Billboard’s Country Airplay chart and the Mediabase chart this past week.

“Sober Saturday Night,” which features Vince Gill on background vocals and guitar, was co-written by Chris, Brad Warren and Brett Warren. The tune is Chris’ third consecutive single from his I’m Comin’ Over album to reach No. 1, following both the title track and “Think of You.” Chris has now tallied nine career No. 1 songs.

“I loved getting to work with Vince on the song,” said Chris to Nash Country Daily. “Obviously, I’m a really, really, big fan anyway. Anytime you actually get to have someone that you’re that big a fan of on your album, it’s just a big deal. I remember going to see him at [Nashville’s] Starwood Amphitheater years ago. He was one of my first concerts. The fact now that his name is next to mine on a single—it’s just so many cool things going on there. I’m definitely proud of ‘Sober Saturday Night.'”

Jason Aldean and Wife Brittany Kerr Add to Their Family

Jason Aldean and Wife Brittany Kerr Add to Their Family

A couple of weeks ago Jason Aldean said he and wife Brittany were “down” to add to their family. Today (Feb. 5), the couple doubled-down on that statement by announcing the addition of Boss to their troupe.

Jason and Brittany posted a video on Twitter with their new French bulldog after alluding to the aforementioned addition.

“Hey everyone, we recently did a Q&A and a lot of the questions were [about] when we were going to start extending our family,” said Brittany.

“And we can finally tell you, it’s happening,” added Jason as he moved Boss into the camera frame.

Patsy Cline Remembered With “American Masters” Documentary 54 Years After Her Death

Patsy Cline Remembered With “American Masters” Documentary 54 Years After Her Death

Arguably one of the greatest voices in country music, Patsy Cline would have celebrated her 85th birthday this year on Sept. 8. As a tribute to Patsy, the American Masters series is honoring the country legend—who died in a plane crash 54 years ago on March 5, 1963, at the age of 30—with the world premiere of Patsy Cline: American Masters.

The documentary, narrated by Rosanne Cash, will begin premiering on March 4 on PBS (check local listings) as part of Women’s History month and features some of country’s leading ladies speaking about Patsy’s legacy, including LeAnn Rimes, Reba McEntire, Mickey Guyton, Wanda Jackson and Kacey Musgraves.

Patsy Cline: American Masters“She came through it—the car wreck, the bad marriage, the poverty that she lived in, having to quit school and go to work. All of those things made her what she was,” Reba says about the icon.

The American Masters series, in its 31st season, examines the roots of Patsy’s impact in both personal and cultural terms to highlight how she arrived at a pivotal moment in the evolution of American culture and, with Decca Records producer Owen Bradley, synthesized country, pop and rock in a new way to create the Nashville Sound.

“It’s been such a privilege to tell the story of Patsy Cline. For me, her story exceeds her musical accomplishments. She is in a rare class of women who simply set out to achieve their dreams and through those efforts left an indelible mark,” said Emmy-nominated director and producer Barbara J. Hall.

The production highlights Patsy’s performances of classic songs such as “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces,” and “Crazy.” Patsy, who was known as a pioneer for women in the ’50s, broke down barriers for female artists like Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and many more to carve out country music paths of their own.

“It would have been amazing to have seen how she would’ve developed,” said Wanda Jackson in the documentary. “We got cheated out of that.”

Indeed we did.

Vote Now: 3rd Annual Nash Music Madness Championship — Carrie, Garth, Sturgill, Dolly, Maren, Miranda & More

In honor of college basketball’s craziest month, I created a bracket with 16 of the hottest acts in country music. I seeded them based on the strength of their current “season,” which ran from the ACM Awards in April 2016 to the Grammy Awards in February 2017. Now they are pitted against each other in a winner-takes-all format.

For the next four weeks, you can vote on who you think should win the head-to-head battles until we crown our champ. Before you cry foul on the seeding, remember that I’m only one man and I don’t play favorites. However, if you’ve still got a problem with the seeding, hit me up on Twitter @TheJimCasey so I can tell you how wrong you are.

Enough of this, cast your vote now.

Voting in our Super 16 round ends on March 9 at 11:59 p.m..

Warning: Justin Moore’s Vocal Chords Are Not Looking Too Good—Postpones Shows Due to Illness

Warning: Justin Moore’s Vocal Chords Are Not Looking Too Good—Postpones Shows Due to Illness

Justin Moore has been forced to postpone scheduled shows due to illness. The singer posted a message on his Instagram account on Wednesday (March 1) to announce that he was sick and apologize to fans for having to postpone his show in Omaha on Thursday night (March 2).

The post read: “Sorry to postpone the show Omaha! Promise we’ll make it up to y’all. Can’t even talk, so you dang sure don’t want me to try and sing. See y’all soon!”

Two days later (March 3), Justin returned to Instagram to reveal that his vocal chords were the culprit for his illness. The “You Look Like I Need a Drink” singer posted photos of the infected chords with the warning that “they’re gross.”

“Thanks for all the well wishes guys,” the caption read. “I’ve been on the road for 10 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever cancelled a show due to an illness. Sorry to the fans, and I promise we will make it up to y’all. These are some pics of my vocal chords. Be forewarned, they’re gross! Needless to say, this is not what they are supposed to look like!”

While we agree—the vocal chords aren’t pretty—we don’t really know what normal vocal chords are supposed to look like anyway. Check out the photos below.

Justin was scheduled to be in St. Louis tonight (March 3) for the American Made Tour with Lee Brice, but that show has been cancelled and rescheduled for April 19. No word on whether Saturday night’s (March 4) show in Columbus, Ohio will be postponed as of yet.

NCD wishes Justin a speedy recovery.

Members of Nash Morning Show “Ty, Kelly & Chuck” to Be Back On Air March 6 to Recount Car Wreck

Members of Nash Morning Show “Ty, Kelly & Chuck” to Be Back On Air March 6 to Recount Car Wreck

The co-hosts of NASH morning show Ty, Kelly & Chuck—Ty Bentli, Chuck Wicks and Kelly Ford—and the show’s producer, Glenn Johnson, were involved in a serious single-car accident Monday night (Feb. 27) while traveling from Columbus, Miss., to New Orleans, where they were scheduled to be grand marshals in the Mardi Gras parade today.

Chuck Wicks recovering in the hospital after the wreck.

While driving through a downpour, the car they were traveling in hydroplaned and rolled twice before ending up in a ditch. Although bumped and bruised, Ty, Kelly and Glenn sustained non-life threatening physical injuries, while Chuck suffered a fractured skull and fractured vertebrae in his C2 region. The good news is that Chuck suffered no paralysis and he has been released from the hospital. He expects to be “wearing a neck brace for about three months with a lot of discomfort for awhile.

On Monday, March 6, Ty, Kelly and producer Glenn are expected to return to the studio for the first time since the accident and talk on-air about their ordeal. Depending on how Chuck feels, he may stop by the studio or phone in.

We look forward to having all of our co-workers back in the office very soon.

Watch Luke Bryan Slow It Down in Nostalgic New Video for “Fast”

Luke Bryan released a new video for his single, “Fast,” which is currently No. 7 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

“Fast” was co-written by Luke, Rodney Clawson and Luke Laird, and it is his sixth single from his 2015 album, Kill the Lights. The previous five singles all reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

The new video, which was directed by Michael Monaco, features Luke singing on an empty stage as nostalgic photos from his past are interspersed into the footage.

“Nothing makes me happier than knowing my family is safe and content,” says Luke. “Life does go too fast so we have to remind ourselves to stop and take in what is happening around us in our careers and our families lives.”
