Watch Garth Brooks’ Never-Before-Released “We Shall Be Free” Video Featuring Sean Connery, Forest Whitaker, Whoopi Goldberg & More

During Garth Brooks’ weekly Inside Studio G Facebook Live series last night (March 6), the G-man broadcast the never-before-seen rebooted video for “We Shall Be Free.”

Here’s a little backstory on the song, original video and the rebooted video.

“We Shall Be Free,” which was written by Garth and Stephanie Davis, appeared on Garth’s 1992 album, The Chase. Garth was inspired to write the song—which promotes racial, ethnic and sexual orientation tolerance—after witnessing the 1992 L.A. riots from his bus. The song’s original music video was released in 1992, featuring powerful news footage with celebrity cameos, including Whoopi Goldberg, Jay Leno, John Elway, Joan Rivers and more. The video won the 1993 ACM Video of the Year.

In 2005, Garth decided to reboot the video with recent news clips, including footage from 9/11, and more celebrities, including Forest Whitaker, Sean Connery, Al Gore and more. Due to publishing rights, the video was never released.

During Inside Studio G, Garth talked briefly about the song and the rebooted video before broadcasting the never-before-seen footage.

The rebooted “We Shall Be Free” video starts at the 2:17 mark.

Blake Shelton Shares the Story Behind One of His Favorite Songs, “Savior’s Shadow”

Blake Shelton Shares the Story Behind One of His Favorite Songs, “Savior’s Shadow”

Blake Shelton had a dream. That dream turned into a song. That song became “Savior’s Shadow,” the final track on Blake’s 2016 album, If I’m Honest.

“I have a song called ‘Savior’s Shadow’ on my current album that I actually dreamed,” Blake shared in a video from the set of The Voice. “I woke up and there was more of the song in my dream, but all I could remember was the first verse—I sang it into my phone and I never forgot it.”

“I’m standing in my Savior’s shadow / He is watching over me / I feel the rain, I hear the thunder / As he cries for me,” Blake sings in the first verse.

After Blake wrote a second verse for the song, he called on songwriters Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall to help finish the tune.

“I would walk around the next couple of months singing that verse, not really knowing what it meant,” Blake adds. “Eventually, I wrote another verse to the song. I realized I was onto something that was special to me. I called my friends Jessi Alexander and Jon Randall to help me with this thing and they did. It turned out to be one of my favorite songs that I’ve ever been a part of as a writer. If you get a chance to listen to it, you’ll understand why.”

You can catch more of Blake as he coaches his way through The Voice every Monday and Tuesday night at 7 p.m. CT on NBC.

Watch Carly Pearce’s Wistful New Video for “Every Little Thing”

New things are happening for Carly Pearce in 2017. The Kentucky native signed a new record deal with Big Machine, released a new single, “Every Little Thing,” and now has a new video for the aforementioned song.

“‘Every Little Thing’ is about a relationship that was four or five years ago, but I wrote it last year,” says Carly to Nash Country Daily. “It’s interesting to have this song come out, and those feelings were so real, but now, so much life has happened and I’m thankful that that relationship didn’t work. It’s been amazing just to hear different stories of people that are going through that or even people that are attaching the song to something much greater like a death or being a widow or something like that.”

Vince with wife Amy Grant

In the new episode of Backstage at the Ryman, which is premiering today (March 7) on Nash Country Daily, country music icon Vince Gill is profiled during one of his recent Christmas at the Ryman shows with wife Amy Grant. During the backstage interview, Vince talks about the first time he performed on the Ryman’s hallowed stage, the venue’s magical acoustics and what the Mother Church of Country Music means to Nashville.

“Anytime I get the chance to sing in the Ryman Auditorium, I take it ’cause it’s absolutely hands down my favorite place I’ve ever gotten to play and sing music,” says Vince. “The first time I sang in here was a TV show probably close to 30 years ago with Garrison Keillor, and I just sang with an acoustic guitar—by yourself, just a guitar, in this room was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It’s only happened once or twice other than that in my lifetime and it was pretty magical.”

Big & Rich Put a Fresh Spin on Not-So-New Single, “California”

Big & Rich Put a Fresh Spin on Not-So-New Single, “California”

Today (March 6), Big & Rich announced the release of their new single, “California.” But some country fans may already be familiar with the tune that was previously cut by Tim McGraw and featured Big & Rich on harmonies. That version is a cut from Tim’s 2015 album, Damn Country Music, but it was never released as a single.

The duo reworked the song to give it a Big & Rich feel. They shared their excitement, along with a snippet of the new tune, on Instagram. The rebooted single sounds off about a girl who is in love with California and chooses the sunshine and beaches over her man.

(Cuz) she’s in love with California / And that west coast sunshine dream / These ain’t no holly woods / And these hills ain’t Beverly / Ain’t no beaches on these backroads / No sunset on the boulevard / She’s in love with California /And breakin’ my heart,” they sing in the chorus.

Written by John Rich, Rodney Clawson and Vicky McGhee, “California” is the lead single from Big & Rich’s upcoming sixth studio album, Did It for the Party, due out later this year.

“We like the song ‘California’ because it goes quick, quick, slow, slow, quick, quick, slow, slow,” John says in the video.

“It’s a two-stepping song,” adds Big Kenny.

Check out Big & Rich’s version of “California.”
