Watch Singer/Songwriter Steve Dorian’s Tasty 10-Minute Tune About Girl Scout Cookies

Nashville singer/songwriter—and current member of the pop a cappella group Rockapella—Steve Dorian stopped by NASH morning show Ty, Kelly and Chuck today (Feb. 8) to try his hand at the 10-minute tune, which challenges singer/songwriters to craft a tune in 10 minutes or less on a relevant topic of the day.

Since Girl Scout Cookie season is upon us (and if you haven’t tried the new S’mores flavor, you’re missing out), Steve decided to tackle the tasty topic to the tune of “Hard to Handle,” a song that Otis Redding originally recorded in 1968 and the Black Crowes found success with in 1990.

Check out Steve’s tasty tune below.

Kane Brown’s Current Single, “What Ifs,” With Lauren Alaina Almost Didn’t Make The Album

Kane Brown’s Current Single, “What Ifs,” With Lauren Alaina Almost Didn’t Make The Album

Kane Brown released his self-titled debut album in December 2016 and has been reaping the rewards of its success. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Album chart and made the Top 10 of the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

“I feel like this album’s got so many good songs,” Kane said to Nash Country Daily in an interview prior to his album’s release. “I’m usually very shy about my music. But with the new songs, you’re going to find at least one or two songs on my album that you like. You’re going to learn about my life growing up, being beat as a kid, going through racism, through growing up poor, and letting it go. Just showing that I learned from it and made me the man that I am today.”

One song on the album that almost didn’t make the cut is Kane’s third single, “What Ifs,” a tune he co-wrote with Matthew McGinn and Jordan Schmidt. The song—about a relationship where the question “what if” pops up a lot about the couple’s future—features his good friend Lauren Alaina. However, Kane couldn’t deny the fact that it was his most asked-about song on the album.

“I had another song that was going to be on the album. Then [“What Ifs”]—I couldn’t leave it off the album because it’s been asked about so much. I had Lauren screenshot me pictures of her getting tagged [on social media] with stuff like, ‘When is “What Ifs” coming out?'”

“What Ifs” is out now and you can listen to track right here.

Is Carrie Underwood Planning a Surprise Appearance at Tonight’s Randy Travis Tribute Concert? Here’s What We Know (Full Disclosure: Not Much)

Is Carrie Underwood Planning a Surprise Appearance at Tonight’s Randy Travis Tribute Concert? Here’s What We Know (Full Disclosure: Not Much)

1 Night. 1 Place. 1 Time: A Heroes & Friends Tribute to Randy Travis is tonight (Feb. 8) at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena and it features more than 30 performers, including Garth Brooks, Wynonna, Jeff Foxworthy, Alison Krauss, Ben Haggard, Neal McCoy, Phil Vassar, Travis Tritt, Alabama, Kenny Rogers, Rodney Atkins, Chris Janson, Jamey Johnson, Montgomery Gentry, Michael Ray, Ricky Skaggs, Michael W. Smith, The Randy Travis Band, Tanya Tucker, Kane Brown, James Dupre, Scotty McCreery, Joe Nichols, Collin Raye, The Bellamy Brothers, Ricky Traywick and Chris Young, Chuck Wicks, Mark Chesnutt, Daryle Singletary, Paul Overstreet, Shane Owens, William Michael Morgan, Josh Turner, Rudy Gatlin, John Conlee, Daily & Vincent, Jan Howard, Jeannie Seely, Riders in the Sky and Charles Esten.

One notable name absent from the lineup is Carrie Underwood, who is a well-known Randy Travis fan and friend. In fact, Randy was the one who surprised Carrie with an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry in 2008. Carrie and Randy also joined forces for a duet on American Idol in 2009.

Could Carrie be planning a surprise appearance of her own tonight? Here’s what we know.

Carrie has not been mentioned in any of the press releases surrounding the event, however, her name came up in a quote from Kane Brown to his Sony label on Feb. 6: “I’m a huge Randy Travis fan and it’s awesome being on this tribute. Getting to play Bridgestone and then hearing all the other artists that’s gonna be on stage, Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner, just to be in that line up with those people, means the world to me and that Randy would even ask me to do it with him.”

Now, Kane could have just made an honest mistake and mentioned Carrie’s name by accident, or he may have let the cat out of the bag. One additional fun fact: both Kane and Carrie’s record labels—RCA Nashville and Arista Nashville, respectively—are under the Sony umbrella.

NCD will be covering the event tonight, so we’ll let you know if Carrie shows up.

Watch Vince Gill Perform “Go Rest High on That Mountain” to Honor Fallen Nashville Police Officer Eric Mumaw

On Monday (Feb. 6), a memorial service was held for Nashville police officer Eric Mumaw, 44, who died in the line of duty on Feb. 2 while trying to rescue a woman who had driven into the frigid waters of the Cumberland River.

Officer Mumaw, who was an 18-year veteran of the police force, was awarded the Medal of Valor, NPD’s highest honor.

During the public memorial service that was attended by thousands, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jamey Johnson paid their respects by singing “Some Gave All,” while Vince Gill performed “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” a song he wrote and recorded in 1994.

“To Eric’s mother, I want to sing this song for you today,” said Vince. “This was a song I wrote when I lost my brother 25 years ago, 24 years ago. And he passed right around the same age as Eric, and I watched my mother have to go through this. It was very difficult, but I wrote this song for the love of a brother, and today I want to sing it for all of you, for your love for your brother.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Mumaw’s family.

The video has The Voice judge longing for an ex as he stands in a cold warehouse in the pouring rain. It may be raining in the video, but Blake isn’t getting wet. The rain surrounds him, keeping him at arm’s length from the girl he can’t get off his mind. Throughout the video, the girl appears as Blake reaches out to her, but alas, she’s just a figment of his imagination that the song conjures up.

“Every time I hear that song / I’m standing in the pouring rain / On your front lawn and oh-oh-oh / I still think about you oh-oh-oh / Every time I hear that song / It’s like the first time it came on and oh-oh-oh / I still think about you oh-oh-oh / I still think about you,” Blake sings in the chorus.

Jason Isbell Celebrates 5 Years of Sobriety: “You Miss It for a Second, but Then You Think, ‘Thank God I Don’t Have to Put Up With It Anymore’”

Americana juggernaut Jason Isbell celebrated five years of sobriety yesterday (Feb. 6)—and what an amazing five years it’s been for the Grammy-winning artist. Since going to rehab in 2012, Jason has gotten married to Amanda Shires (2013), released award-winning albums Southeastern (2013) and Something More Than Free (2015), won two Grammys (2016) and welcomed a baby girl into the world (2015).

Jason made a simple announcement on Twitter to commemorate the feat.

Congrats on the milestone accomplishment, Jason.

In 2014, Jason sat down with Nash Country Daily to talk about his sobriety, and he was very candid about it.

Below is an excerpt of our conversation.

NCD: Do you remember the last drink you had?

“Yeah, it was moonshine. Well, I remember the last jug of moonshine that I had. I don’t remember what the bottom of it looked like, but I remember what the top of it looked like. We were in Virginia, so it was that stuff from like south of Richmond that’s really, really good—it’s been really good for the last 75 years. That was the last thing that I drank. It didn’t treat me well. I knew that I’d be going into rehab on Monday, so on Saturday night I tried to see how much I could get down and it was a bad experience for sure.”

Is drinking something that you miss?

“Yeah, I think alcoholics always miss it. But it’s something I don’t miss enough, at least right now, to go back to. In a lot of ways, it’s like somebody you dated that you knew was really bad for you but you had this kind of strong attraction anyway. You miss it in that same way. You miss it for a second, but then you think, ‘Thank God I don’t have to put up with it anymore.’”

Jamie Lynn Spears’ 8-Year-Old Daughter Hospitalized After ATV Accident

Singer/songwriter Jamie Lynn Spears’ 8-year-old daughter, Maddie, was hospitalized on Sunday, Feb. 5, after an ATV accident in which the child drove into a pond on family property and was submerged for a short period of time.

According to a statement on People by Tangipahoa Parish sheriff Daniel Edwards, the accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Feb. 5. Maddie was driving an ATV when she “over-corrected causing the ATV to enter the pond. The ATV and child were instantly submerged in the water right before their [Jamie Lynn and stepfather Jamie Watson] eyes.

“Within seconds the child’s mother, stepfather and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail. The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting. Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.

“This is an extremely tragic accident. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking you to keep this family in your constant prayers as they try to cope with this horrible incident. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time of need.”

According to reports, Maddie was airlifted to a hospital in New Orleans where she is in critical, but stable, condition.

Last night (Feb. 6), Maddie’s aunt, Britney Spears, posted a Tweet asking for prayers.
