Hospital Employee Killed in Pedestrian Crash in Morristown, Police Say

Morristown, TN (WOKI) A Rogersville woman is dead after being hit by a truck Monday morning near Morristown hospital.

Morristown Police Department officials say officers responded around 7:30 a.m. to a deadly pedestrian crash on North High Street at the intersection of Watercrest Street.

They report 41-year-old Elizabeth Block, an employee of Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, was traversing the crosswalk near the facility when she was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 73-year-old Jefferson City resident.

Authorities say the driver of the pickup failed to yield, striking and killing Block.

Charges against the driver have not been filed, but police did administer a drug test. Those results are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.

A driver is facing charges after crashing into a Tennessee Department of Transportation HELP truck on the side of the road.

TDOT officials say it happened on October 20th when the truck was pulling up to help a disabled vehicle on the side of I-40 West near Watt Road, when another car crashed into them.

Tennessee Highway Patrol says the driver who caused the crash fell asleep at the wheel.

He’s facing several charges including reckless endangerment. The TDOT driver suffered some injuries in the crash.

This is the fourth time this month one of their trucks has been hit.

A Knoxville man is charged after firing a gun towards two juveniles.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies called to a home on Little River Road for a “disturbance” call and say the two youth told them they had gotten into a fight with 71 year-old Jerome Denson who pulled out a gun and fired toward them hitting the ground almost hitting one of them.

Denson is charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Last year, Wreaths Across America was able to place wreaths on all 18,000 graves in the Knoxville area for only the second time. This year they will need 19,000 wreaths to cover all veterans’ graves.

Sevierville, TN (WOKI) All aboard! Though there’s no date available yet, engineers are working to get a beloved Dollywood favorite back on the tracks.

The Dollywood Express derailed at the beginning of October; now, engineers are working to get the train back up and running.

Park officials say a switch track on the train’s path suffered a mechanical issue on October 1st causing the train to derail. No one was hurt, and guests were evacuated from the cars.

They say a specialized part is being manufactured for the track, and that the part, once installed, will be tested before the train returns to service.

Athens, TN (WOKI) An investigation is underway in McMinn County after hunters find human remains last week near Athens.

Officials with the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office say deputies responded around 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 19 after hunters found what appeared to be skeletal human remains in a wooded area off Highway 30 west of Athens, near County Rd. 119.

The sheriff’s office says hunters directed deputies to the location several yards off the highway where partial human remains were discovered; they were sent to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and members of the District Attorney General’s Office are aiding in the investigation.

Seymour, TN (WOKI) The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly house fire that happened in Seymour early Monday morning.

Fire officials say the fire broke out around 6:00 a.m. at a home in the 12-thousand block of Chapman Highway near Shiloh Road.

The incident caused backups through much of Monday morning’s commute along Chapman Highway as the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department responded.

Officials provided no additional information as the investigation is still in the early stages.

TWRA Says Reward has Increased for Information Leading to Arrest and Conviction of a Poacher

The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency increasing the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a poacher.

A bull elk carcass was found in Anderson County on October 8th and TWRA says poaching is a serious offense.

The previous reward of $3,000 increased to $5,000.

Knoxville Police Identify the Victim in a Fatal Shooting in North Knoxville

Updated Story: Knoxville Police identify the victim of the deadly shooting that happened at the Osmar Event Center on Inskip Drive.

20 year-old Nicholas Sheadrick was shot Saturday night at the center which had been rented out for a party and concert with about 300 people in attendance when a fight broke out in a bathroom.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived after reportedly fire the fatal shot.

A suspect has not been arrested or charged and the investigation remains ongoing.

Original story: An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed at a late-night event on W. Inskip Drive.

At around 1 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, members of the Knoxville Police Department’s Community Engagement Response Team were alerted to a shooting that had occurred at a party and concert being held at 108 W. Inskip Drive. 

CERT officers arrived at the scene and found a man outside of the event center who had been shot at least one time. 

Officers attempted life-saving measures before transporting the victim to the UT Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon his arrival. 

The shooting is under active investigation by the KPD Homicide Unit, and that investigation is in the early stages at this time. 

Anyone with information that could assist that investigation is asked to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible to receive a cash reward. 

The investigation is continuing.
