CDC says Heat-Related Illnesses are Preventable and You Should Know the Symptoms and What to Do

Temperatures in East Tennessee expected to be the nineties the next several days.

The CDC says you should know the symptoms and what to do if you or a loved one show signs of having a heat-related illness.

If you are suffering from Heat Stroke you may have a high body temperature, Fast pulse, Headache, Dizziness, Nausea, confusion and you could pass out. Heat Stroke is a medical emergency, call 9-1-1, get to a cooler place, lower body temperature with cool bath or clothes and do NOT drink anything.

Heat Exhaustion systems include heavy sweating, cold, clammy skin, muscle cramps, nausea or vomiting, headache, dizziness and possibly passing out. You should loosen your clothes, sip water and get medical help if you are throwing up or symptoms last over an hour.

Boy Killed in Boat Crash on Norris Lake is Identified as a Middle School Student

The boy who died in a weekend boating accident on Norris Lake is identified as 12-year-old Conner Catlett.

WVLT reporting the boy is the grandson of Mike Campbell, the man who started Regal Cinema, and was about to turn 13 and start the seventh grade at Gibbs Middle School.

Saturday’s accident involved two boats that collided near Norris Landing Marina and remains under investigation by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The Knoxville Fire Department is investigating a house fire in Northeast Knoxville that destroys the home.

Crews called to Valley View Drive yesterday evening and found the home fully engulfed in flames. Everyone made it out of the home safe and no injuries were reported.

One person has been displaced because the home did suffer heavy fire damage.

Hiring Events Scheduled for Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge and Resort

Knoxville, TN (WOKI) Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge and Resort is preparing for its much-anticipated opening by hosting hiring events throughout the month of August.

The first hiring event for the resort will take place on Thursday, August 3 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa.

Additional hiring events are held at the same time weekly through August 24 at DreamMore Resort (Aug. 10, 17, 24). Two hiring events are slated for the Sevierville Civic Center, the first on August 29 (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) and the second on August 30 (3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.). Applicants are encouraged to attend the earliest hiring event possible for the largest selection of available opportunities.

Former Campbell Co. Corrections Officer Indicted, Charged with Misconduct

Campbell County, TN (WOKI) A former Campbell County Corrections Officer is arrested Monday, July 24 following an indictment for bringing contraband into the county jail.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says 43 year-old Michael McCarty had been the subject of investigation since March when it was determined that he “used his position as a corrections officer to bring contraband into the Campbell County Jail to give inmates in exchange for payments.”

McCarty was fired when his department learned of the misconduct.

The Campbell County Grand Jury indicted McCarty with two counts of official misconduct on Friday. He was arrested Monday by the LaFollette Police Department and booked in the Campbell County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) Tennessee Representative Gloria Johnson could be looking at a U.S. Senate run against incumbent Senator Marsha Blackburn.

That, according to our news partner WVLT who secured a statement from Johnson in which she concedes she’s taking a “serious look” at the upcoming race. Though she has not made a formal announcement, Johnson has also been active on Twitter, re-tweeting comments on the possibility of running.

Johnson’s statement to WVLT, in full, reads:

I’m taking a serious look at this race and having great conversations with folks who are hungry for better leadership in Washington. Tennesseans deserve someone who will stand up to corrupt special interests and fight to lower costs so every family can build a good life. That ain’t Marsha Blackburn.

The Democrat Representative from Knoxville made national headlines in March and April when she avoided expulsion from the state House for her part in a protest calling for more gun restrictions. That protest, after the Covenant Presbyterian School shooting in Nashville.

Knoxville Police are Investigating an Early Morning Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Knoxville Police areinvestigating an early morning ( Monday ) fatal motorcycle crash on James White Parkway.

Officers responding to that single-vehicle motorcycle crash near the exit to East Hill Avenue. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the motorcycle was driving south on James White Parkway when it struck the inside wall.

The man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
