Campbell County, TN (WOKI) A former Campbell County Corrections Officer is arrested Monday, July 24 following an indictment for bringing contraband into the county jail.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says 43 year-old Michael McCarty had been the subject of investigation since March when it was determined that he “used his position as a corrections officer to bring contraband into the Campbell County Jail to give inmates in exchange for payments.”
McCarty was fired when his department learned of the misconduct.
The Campbell County Grand Jury indicted McCarty with two counts of official misconduct on Friday. He was arrested Monday by the LaFollette Police Department and booked in the Campbell County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) Tennessee Representative Gloria Johnson could be looking at a U.S. Senate run against incumbent Senator Marsha Blackburn.
That, according to our news partner WVLT who secured a statement from Johnson in which she concedes she’s taking a “serious look” at the upcoming race. Though she has not made a formal announcement, Johnson has also been active on Twitter, re-tweeting comments on the possibility of running.
Johnson’s statement to WVLT, in full, reads:
“I’m taking a serious look at this race and having great conversations with folks who are hungry for better leadership in Washington. Tennesseans deserve someone who will stand up to corrupt special interests and fight to lower costs so every family can build a good life. That ain’t Marsha Blackburn.”
The Democrat Representative from Knoxville made national headlines in March and April when she avoided expulsion from the state House for her part in a protest calling for more gun restrictions. That protest, after the Covenant Presbyterian School shooting in Nashville.
Knoxville Police areinvestigating an early morning ( Monday ) fatal motorcycle crash on James White Parkway.
Officers responding to that single-vehicle motorcycle crash near the exit to East Hill Avenue. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the motorcycle was driving south on James White Parkway when it struck the inside wall.
The man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Wildlife Officer Hunter Daniels has received the honor of being named Mississippi Flyway Waterfowl Enforcement Officer of the Year. The Mississippi Flyway Council annually recognizes full-time law enforcement officers who make outstanding contributions to the protection of waterfowl the flyway states.
Daniels’s assigned work area is Wilson County which is one of the top waterfowl hunting destinations in Middle Tennessee. Currently there are 134 public duck blinds on Old Hickory Wildlife Management Area. Parts of Old Hickory WMA are located within Wilson County and are managed primarily for waterfowl hunting. Officer Daniels routinely assists other officers on Percy Priest Lake and Cheatham Reservoir with law enforcement efforts. In addition to waterfowl enforcement efforts, he patrols Old Hickory Lake during the summer, one of the top visited lakes in Tennessee.
Daniels is very active in public outreach and works with youth, school and adult organizations on waterfowl education and participation. Recently he led an effort to instruct wood duck natural biology at Lebanon High School. Students were able to learn about wood duck nesting habitat as well as efforts by TWRA to increase the much-needed habitat. The also constructed 250 wood duck boxes to be placed around Old Hickory Lake. Daniels taught on multiple occasions at the Andrew Jackson Fraternal Order of Police camp to reach inner city children on wildlife, hunting, fishing, and environmental issues.
Each of the last three years he coordinated youth hunts on Old Hickory WMA. In addition to the youth hunts he also led a group of military veterans on a duck hunt.
Daniels is in hist fifth year with the TWRA. He previously worked in Canada for Delta Waterfowl conducting diving duck nest surveys. He has a bachelor’s degree. in Wildlife Sciences from Tennessee Tech University. He will also be recognized at a future meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.
In addition to Tennessee, the Mississippi Flyway includes Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin, and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.
It is estimated about 40 percent of North America’s waterfowl spend at least part of their lives in the Mississippi Flyway. The flyway extends from Canada’s tundra to the southern end of South America.

An investigation is underway following a South Knoxville Apartment fire which displaces 30 people.
The Knoxville Fire department was called to 115 Flenniken Avenue late Friday night and found a small fire in one of the apartments. The fire set off the sprinkler system which caused water damage in the complex. There were no injuries reported.
Tennessee Theatre announces when the tickets for the 2023-24 Broadway Season will be going on sale.
Shows such as Six the Musical, Jagged Little Pill, Hadestown, To Kill a Mockingbird, Beetlejuice and Wicked will all hit the stage this season.
Tickets for all shows except Wicked, which will be announced at a later date, will go on sale in August, October, November and December on the following dates:

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating the 18th boating fatality on Tennessee’s waters which involves a child.
It happened Saturday night on Norris Lake when a 19-foot Triton bass boat collided with a 24-foot Chapparal open motorboat in front of Norris Landing Marina, resulting in the death of a boy onboard the Chapparal. Both occupants of the Triton boat were ejected and swam to the shore.
Earlier reports of an explosion were not confirmed and are likely attributed to the sound of the impact.
Last year, there were 29 boating deaths on Tennessee waters.
NASHVILLE – SEC Football Media Days were held in the Volunteer State for the first time, with Tennessee taking center stage on the event’s final day.
Head coach Josh Heupel, quarterback Joe Milton III, defensive tackle Omari Thomas and tight end Jacob Warren represented Tennessee at the Grand Hyatt in Nashville on Thursday. The Vols spent the day visiting with members of the local, regional and national media to preview the upcoming season.
“I’d like to welcome to you the Mid-State and the City of Nashville,” Heupel said. “Hope you guys have had a great week here, enjoying some music, enjoying Broadway and having some fun. This city and this area of the state, Mid-State, is extremely important to the success of Tennessee. It’s a big part of our past success, as well, and a lot of great Vol fans and former players that call this place home, and so excited to see them.
“It’s fitting that we are here today for SEC Media Day, because in 44 days we get an opportunity to kick off against Virginia right here in Nissan Stadium. Looking forward to seeing everybody in Vol Nation show up in droves for that ballgame.”
Tennessee returns to Nashville on Saturday, Sept. 2 to kick off year three under Heupel as the Vols square off against Virginia at Nissan Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon ET/11 a.m. CT and will be televised on ABC.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – SEC Football Media Day is being held in the Volunteer State for the first time, and Tennessee will take center stage on the final day of the event on Thursday at the Grand Hyatt in Nashville.
Head coach Josh Heupel, quarterback Joe Milton III, defensive tackle Omari Thomas and tight end Jacob Warren will represent the Volunteers. Live coverage of the event is available all day on SEC Network beginning with SEC This Morning at 8 a.m. ET.
Heupel will be live at the podium on the main stage at 1 p.m. ET. He joins the SEC Network set live at 2:15 p.m. ET. Tennessee players are featured in the main room at 1:50 p.m. ET.
Milton will appear live on the Finebaum Show, and the Vols will also be showcased during College Football Live on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. ET.
Milton, a native of Pahokee, Florida, enters his sixth and final season at the collegiate level after a strong finish to the 2022 campaign as the most valuable player of the Orange Bowl. In two seasons with the Vols, he has thrown for 1,346 yards and 12 touchdowns with zero interceptions. Of the 114 FBS quarterbacks who threw 10 or more touchdown passes last season, Milton was the only one to not throw a pick.
Thomas returns as a leader at defensive tackle in his fourth season with the program. The Memphis native has played in 36 games with 19 starts, accumulating 57 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. He has served as the Vols’ representative on the SEC Football Leadership Council the past two seasons.
Warren, UT’s starting tight end, elected to return for his sixth and final season. A leader on and off the field for the Vols, the Knoxville native has caught 37 passes for 416 yards and four touchdowns in his career. He made nine starts a year ago, catching 12 passes for 163 yards for the nation’s No. 1 offense. He is a five-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and a candidate for the Wuerffel Trophy.
Tennessee enters its third season under the direction of Heupel, who has posted an 18-8 record with seven victories over Top 25 teams and the program’s first New Year’s Six berth in the College Football Playoff era. The 2022 Associated Press SEC Coach of the Year, Heupel led the Vols to their first 11-win season in two decades, culminating with a victory over ACC champion Clemson in the Orange Bowl and a No. 6 final ranking.
The Vols report for preseason camp on Aug. 1 before going through their first practice on Aug. 2. Tennessee returns to Nashville for the season opener vs. Virginia at 11 a.m. CT/noon ET on Sept. 2 in Nissan Stadium.
