COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — Flooding across parts of Cocke County Thursday morning has led to multiple water rescues and widespread road closures.
Sheriff CJ Ball says first responders are actively working to reach people impacted by rising المياه in the Bybee and Parrotsville areas.
“This flood has affected several county roadways,” Ball said. “All emergency services are active and working diligently. We advise citizens to stay off roadways due to dangerous conditions and emergency crews responding.”
State Route 160 was shut down early Thursday near Fowler Road and Bybee Road due to high water, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Several additional roads have also been impacted by flooding:
- Holt Hollow Road
- Fowler Grover Road
- Saint Tide Hollow Road
- Clear Creek Road
Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis says the flooding appears to be concentrated in creeks in the northeastern portion of the county.
“We’re seeing some areas of significant flooding,” Mathis said. “At this time, there are no reports of rivers flooding.”
Emergency crews report high water and debris on roadways, making travel conditions hazardous.
Cocke County remains under a flash flood warning through late Thursday morning, and officials are urging residents to use caution and avoid flooded areas.
